"Because he told the dreamers, wishers, liars, hope-ers, pray-ers, magic bean buyers, and pretenders to come in and sit by the fire."
So I'm putzing around on the net talking to some people and my good buddy, we'll just call him Kory, sends me the picture you see up and to the right of the baby in a stew pot. Now this picture, besides being funny and cute, brings back memories. You may ask yourself, "How does this strange picture bring back memories for the Mistress?" Well Constant Reader, let me tell you.

It was a long time ago when this author was young and just starting to be bitten by that bug called 'literary curiosity'. My parents being the wise, but future-blind people that they are decided to encourage my weird reading habits. They bought me many books (babysitter's club books included), but the one I remember best is the one you see the cover of up to your left,
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. This book and it's quirky poems changed my mental state forever. If you haven't read it, don't make me pimp slap you before you run out and steal it from your local library. I mean it. READ IT!!!

You can't go wrong with poems called, 'Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too', 'Boa Constrictor', 'Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take The Garbage Out', and tons of others.  My favorite poem being 'Dreadful' about how someone ate the baby and it all leads up to a burp at the end. Stick with me just a moment longer Constant Reader. I promise I'm getting to the best part.

Now the particular poem that this baby in a stew pot reminds me of is of course the unforgettable 'Me-Stew', about a devoted chef who has nothing to serve up except himself and so that's just what he does.

If you ever needed a reason for my lunacy and desire to write, Shel Silverstein is a large part of it. Then again, I did also grow up with books like
The BFG by Roald Dahl. And let's not forget reading Stephen King in secret as not to get in trouble (dears I'm talking about with my parents althought I did the same thing with Prof Charles Wyatt).

Okay Constant Reader, the point is... well if forget what it was... But isn't it strange what the mind will remember at the oddest hours? Oh yes that was point wasn't it... So I guess you could say that today's suggested material is anything by Shel Silverstein whether it be his books, recordings, or heck his website. The man, although dead, should continue to shape our "young" "minds".
