5.4.2 JOB DESCRIPTION
NYI President
- Basic Qualifications:
- A Right Relationship With God
- The NYI President is expected to manifest a grace-filled life, and testify to his/her forgiveness before God and her/his complete surrender to His will.
- Harmony with the Denomination
- The NYI President shall be in harmony with the polity and practices of the Church of the Nazarene.
- Faithful Support of the Church
- The NYI President shall support the local church faithfully through regular attendance (as far as is possible) and by the giving of tithes and offerings.
- Passion for ministry
- The NYI President should have a passion for ministry to the age group with which he/she works. She/He should demonstrate a genuine concern for the holistic well-being of those to whom He/She ministers.
- Preparedness
- The NYI President must have the willingness and the availability to consistently and adequately prepare to fulfill his/her role in ministry. Thought should be given before accepting a ministry role to one's ability to give that role the time and attention it requires.
- Additional Qualifications:
- The NYI President must be a member of the local church (Manual Paragraph 810 Article V Section 1 Part 1).
- The NYI President must be at least 15 years old (Manual Paragraph 810 Article V Section 1 Part 4).
- Responsibilities
- The NYI President is expected:
- To Maintain A Right Relationship With God
- To give careful attention to the means of grace which feed and strengthen our individual relationship with Christ
- To Maintain A Right Relationship With Family
- To give careful attention to the needs of his/her family and to assure that ministry does not jeopardize their relationship with each other and with God.
- To Maintain Her/His Own Holistic Well-being
- To give careful attention to maintaining his/her health: physical, emotional, and spiritual. To assure that ministry is not allowed to destroy this health.
- To Plan
- The NYI President shall participate with the Youth Council in the planning of events.
- To Make Policy Decisions
- The NYI President shall participate with the Youth Council in the making of policy decisions.
- To Organize Events
- The NYI President may be asked to assist the Youth Pastor in the organization of events.
- To Represent Trinity Youth Ministries as a Voting Member of the Church Board
- The NYI President is charged with representing the interests of the youth of the church in the monthly and all special church board meetings.
- To Report
- The NYI President is expected to present a report on behalf of the NYI at the annual church meeting, as well as to report monthly to the Youth Council and Church Board (Manual 810 Art. V Sec. 1 Part 4)
- To Present a Budget
- The NYI President is expected to recommend to the church board an asking budget for the local NYI as prepared by the Youth Council (Manual 810 Art. V Sec. 1 Part 4)
- To Represent Trinity Youth Ministries at District Assembly and NYI Convention
- The NYI President is a voting representative of Trinity Youth Ministries at the annual District Assembly and NYI Convention.
- Oversees:
- As a member of the Youth Council, the NYI President oversees all those reporting to it.
- Overseen by:
- NYI Council and Youth Pastor
- Church's Responsibility:
- Trinity Church and Trinity Youth Ministries is expected to provide:
- Ability to look after things of primary importance
- The church must provide encouragement and opportunity for the teacher to grow and prosper in his/her individual relationship with God and family, as well as time to look after her/his own holistic well-being.
- Training
- The church and youth ministries should provide opportunities for training to help the NYI President fulfill his/her resonsibilities.
- Support Staff
- Trinity Youth Ministries shall provide assistants to help the NYI President fulfill her/his duties as needed.
