HEALING HERBS

Unfortunately, life isn't always a bed of roses, it's simply a part of living that we experience moments of sadness as well as joy. We all get a little manic at times, too, and need something to soothe and relax us. At other times, when it's a little hard to shake feelings of being tired, a pick-me-up is the answer. But where do you find the solution? Sometimes you have to look no further than your own backyard! That's right. kind and compassionate Mother Nature has a healing herb for whatever ails you, even the blues!

Be Your Own HErbalist

Going directly to ther source and making your own infusion, which is a kind of tea, is a great way to treat yourself. Not only is it a particularly effective method, as it's from the inside out that healing usually takes place, but it makes a delicious addition to your day, and once you try it you'lll be hooked!
Try making your own infusion by getting some muslin cloth from a fabric store and filling it with the herb of your choice. You may have to buy some of the infusions, which are available at herbalists, but others you can make simply by picking, cleaning and drying out the flower or leaves until brittle.
// Peppermint is fabulous to have around as it is good for relieving so many ailments, such as headaches, nausea, sinusitis and tension - handy to have in your pocket during stressful exams!
// Cinnamon infusions are also easy to make and great for relieving nausea.
// Echinacea flowers will boost your energy levels and immune system in general.
// Garlic successfully treats spots and problem skin.

THE NOSE KNOWS

Inhaling the scent or essence of certain plants, otherwise known as aromatherapy, also works in lifting your spirits or calming you down. Just put a few drops in an oil burner or the tub next time you have a soak.
// Sandalwood is a must have - it smells great and is very soothing. It may, however, leave you feeling a little groggy to use it with care, If you want to relax but need to remain alert..
// Geranium is the perfect choice - it's just as soothing but not as sedating as sandalwood.
// Rose geranium is also a must - have, particularly for girls who love their bath time. It relaxes and, with its naturally sweet and uplifting aroma, you'll be left smelling like .. well, a rose!!

> > Put Your Mind At Ease With .. Chamomile

Next time you feel as though you've rolled out the wrong side of bed, don't duck for cover under the safety of your doona. Get up and face the world by drinking a nice soothing cup of chamomile tea. This will help to relax and rid your mind of any anxiety.
> > Pick Yourself Up Withi .. Lavender Or Rosemary

Once you feel calm, the ideal way to raise your spirits is with a sprig of lavender or rosemary. Used as the base note in many essential oils, these plants are truly two of nature's gems.
