| The name Passmore can be traced back to the time of William the Conqueror, The Norman king who invaded England in 1066. The name Passemer in France became Passmore in England . There are several theories as to where the name came from. Originally this author was led to believe that the name meant sea-fairer, crosser of the sea or sailor but I have been enlightened by Mr Jame Passmore from San Antonio Texas who tells me that after some research by his family the name means "Pass over the moore. At one time the Passmores built bridges across bogland and swamps et. and tolled people to cross. Thank you James for a very refreshing view. Definately more plausable than my theory!
