| The marshal is sitting on the porch of the detachment mending the flag when the stage arrives. |
| A preacher man steps out and approaches Jack, he |
| inquires about the mountie's office. |
| Jack points to the sign and says "What's the matter, |
| can't you read mister ?" |
| The gentleman introduces himself as Harrison Bennett, |
| the corporal's father. |
| Jack takes Mr. Bennett's luggage to the saloon (the only |
| place with an available room). He introduces Marie to the preacher. |

| As they walk towards the saloon, Clive rides into town with a prisoner. The ombre takes a swing at |
| the mountie , there is a bit of a fight and Jack takes the man to jail. |

| Then Clive notices his father. (Jack notices Clive ain't so happy). |

| The man has been arrested for stealing the MacPherson's prized cattle. |
| Clive tells his father "I know why you're here and the answer is still no." |

| "My duty is here, to help these people - protect them. |
| I am not leaving." |
| (Clive's father wants him to return to Toronto and |
| take over his pulpit when he retires.) |

| "Guess you boys'll be needin' yer privacy." |

| Later Jacks talks with Rev. Bennett in the saloon. |

| "You two don't get along so well do ya?" |
| Rev. Bennett: "I want him to leave here, he's wasting himself |
| in this place." |
| "He's a good lawman sir." |

| The reverend passes a parcel to Jack and asks him to |
| give it to his son. |
| Jack: "What is it?" |
| Rev. Bennett: "It's a chess board." |
| "That's kinda like checkers ain't it?" |
| Reverend Bennett teaches Jack how to play chess. |
