Straight From The Heart (part two)
The next morning Jack delivers breakfast to the prisoner and notices he is sick. He gets Marie.
She is certain the man has anthrax poisoning and
suggests that she and Clive ride out to the MacPherson
farm to check out his cattle.
One of the cows is visibly sick, Clive insists they must all be
Marie hurries back to town for help.
Meanwhile:
Rev.: "I find it abhorent that my son uses one of those things.
It's a good thing my congregation can't see me here in the
wilderness with people like..."
Jack: "Jack Craddock?"
Rev.: "I admit when I first saw you I thought you were a roughian."
Marie arrives with the news that Clive has been shot.
Jack & Marie ride out to the farm (Rev. Bennett follows in a carriage).
MacPherson fires a shot at them.
Jack tells MacPherson: "I don't mind you shootin' at
Bennett here, but when you shoot at me & Marie, I take
exception."
MacPherson surrenders his gun and agrees to let Clive destroy his herd.
The next day Reverend Bennett gives a sermon to raise money for the MacPherson's.
As the service begins, Clive is shown at the farm, setting the barn on fire.
The barn will also have to be destroyed.
Jack arrives at church and Marie signals him to remove his hat.
Jack tells Clive he can't wait to hear his father preach.
"Well you enjoy it Jack, I've had enough of his sermons."
"You know Clive yer the lucky one, my pa walked out on
me."
"That's right Jack, and you've never had to live up to
anyone's expectations!"
The congregation sings "Amazing Grace", Jack applauds and receives a dirty look from Marie.
Straight From The Heart conclusion...
destroyed. Mr MacPherson defends his property and shoots at
Clive, just grazing his arm.
Later, at the detachment:
Jack listens to the preacher talk about his son.
