Sweet Revenge
Jack is stopped on the trail removing a pebble from his horse's shoe.
He hears gunshots and hurries in the direction of
the sound.
He catches an hombre trying to rob the stage. Craddock orders him to drop his gun.
The hombre shoots at Jack  (missing him).
Jack returns fire, then realizes it's Henry Ferguson.
He rushes Ferguson to Marie's, but it's too late.
"He wasn't supposed to die Marie, I shot him in
"I'm sorry Jack, he lost too much blood."
Meanwhile Ferguson's two children see their Pa's horse outside Marie's and go to see what is
wrong.
"There ain't no easy way to say this, I'm about as sorry as a man can be." Jack tells them.
"I shot him, he was tryin' to rob the stage."
William punches Jack in the face, Jane wipes the blood
from her Pa's saddle onto Jack's shirt.
They vow the marshal will pay for
Jack returns to his office and is visited by Louis Gilbert ,who offers him a $20 reward for
saving his life (Gilbert was on the stage).
Jack is a might angry.
"It's men like you in suits, you & Wendell McWherter,
who make it impossible fer us normal people ta survive!
"Promoting international relations
again Jack?"
Jack decides to get a loan to help the Ferguson children pay off their Pa's debts so they won't
loose their farm.
"Even if I give you full value on your horses and
saddles, your total assets amount to $225."
"That much huh?"
But tells him to find someone with collateral to back the loan.
Then he has to explain what "collateral" is.
As Jack leaves the bank, you know he is thinking of asking Marie.
Someone takes a shot at him.
He chases the hombre behind the bank and pulls his gun.
But Craddock holds his fire when he realizes the shooter was William Ferguson.
He lets the boy ride off.
At the funeral, Jane tells the corporal to have "Whoever built my Pa's coffin, build another for
the marshal."
Jack watches through the detachment
window.
