| The marshal and the mountie are in a shootout with three moonshiners (the Caine brothers). |
| The hombres get away, but first they shoot their two indian hostages, killing one. |
| The lawmen take the wounded indian to Marie's. Then they return to the detachment. |
| "I got this interestin' letter here Clive, but I'm havin' a hard time makin' out this one word." |
| Clive glances at the letter;"It's incompetent Jack." |
| "Huh, that's sorta like useless ain't it?" |
| Clive grins; "Yes." |
| "Yup, well, that makes sense, see this here letter's fer you, it's from yer boss." |
| Clive grabs the letter from him; "You know Jack my job would be a whole lot easier if the U.S. |
| government would just do their job and crack down on these moonshiners!" |
| Marie enters the office and tells them the indian is awake. |
| As they walk out the door, the stage arrives. Clives runs towards the passengers yelling, "Anna!" |
| (In the episode "Hand to Hand" Clive's old friend from the academy, Matt, is murdered. Anna is his widow..... |
| Clive was in love with her). |
| Marie is jealous. Jack tells her; "I best go talk to that indian, |
| Clive looks a might preoccupied don't he?" |
| Anna is passing through Bordertown, on her way to Vancouver where she has gotten a teaching |
| job. She has come to visit Matt's grave. |
| Jack says the trail has gone cold, but they'll keep lookin', Clive wants to give up and return to town. |
| "Ya, us Americans are really fallin' down on |
| Jack keeps looking....,Clive returns to town. |
| Marie talks with Anna at the cemetery. Anna explains about the difficult decision she had to make |
| when choosing to marry Matt instead of Clive. (Marie understands her dilema). |
| When Clive returns, he watches Anna place flowers on |
| Matt's grave (which is outside of town). |
| Marie and Jack are having dinner. |
| At that moment Clive and Anna enter the room, |
| behind Jack, Marie kicks him under the table |
| Couteau enters and walks directly towards Clive... staring at Anna he says "I need to talk to you |
| Clive tells him to go away. Jack says if it has to do with the law maybe he should talk to a lawman |
| who still takes his job seriously.....Soon Marie finds herself dinning alone. |
| "Now listen here Clive...." |
| Later, the lawmen are trying to track the Caine brothers. |
| the job ain't we?" |
| Jack chuckles, "I never figured a woman would take |
| Clive's mind off 'a work...what's her story anyhow?" |
| to signal him to be quiet. |
| Jack offers them seats at his table, but they decline the invitation. |
