| Jack is on the porch of the detachment whittling on a |
| piece of wood, he stops and checks his pocket watch. |
| it's three minutes to eight in the morning. |
| The street in Bordertown is deserted. |

| He glances across the street. |
| A man looks out of the upstairs window of the |
| saloon, he is loading a pistol as he watches |
| Craddock. Jack checks his watch again, it's 8 a.m. |

| The saloon doors swing open and one of the Clancey brothers steps into the street. |
| Jack does the same. He adjusts his holster and stares into the other mans eyes. |
| Jack's hat is shot from his head, as the Clancey boy drops to the street. |

| Marie is angry, "You didn't have to kill him Jack." |
![]() |
| Willie follows the marshal, he is very impressed, "No one is faster than the marshal." |
| Marie is disgusted and tells Willie it's time for his reading |
| lesson, he says he's not interested. |
| "Willie Haddon you'll never learn to read and write." |
| "I don't care, the marshal can't read so why should I?" |

| Inside the detachment Bennett is also angry. |

| "It was a fair fight, that's the law of the west." |
| "I'll be back tonight Jack, try not to kill anyone |
| while I'm gone." |

| The remaining Clancey brothers leave town, they tell Dom to "Tell that marshal it ain't over." |

| Meanwhile, Willie sees a young girl sitting alone outside the stagecoach office. He introduces |
| himself. She says her name is Lucy Walker, her parents died on the stage, she thinks her aunt |
| lives near Bordertown and Lucy is waiting for her to |
| pick her up. |
| "But where will you sleep tonight if she doesn't come?" |
| Lucy starts to cry. Willie sees Marie coming out of the |
| store and runs across the street to tell her about Lucy. |
| Marie takes Lucy home. Clive goes to run a check on Amanda Walker, Lucy's aunt. |

| Marie and Sally are at the store, Sally is defending the marshal, "I think he did the right thing." |
| Jack comes in to buy "oil fer the whistle I been makin' |
| for Willie." |
| Marie tells him he is "like that big animal that used |
| to be great but is now extinct - a dinosaur. They died |
| because they couldn't change." |
| "Don't be preachin' Marie, I just had |
| two Sundays worth from Bennett." |
| Jack walks into the saloon and suddenly the noisy room becomes quiet. People get up and leave |
| without speaking to him. Seems everyone in town is mad at the marshal. |
