Gun Down (continued)
"Dom, do I smell er somethin'?"
Dom tells the marshal that people are afraid.
"Afraid of me?"
"They're afraid you're turning Bordertown into another
Dodge City."
"Well that's just plumb crazy Dom!"
The saloon doors swing open and Johnny Starr walks in, throws his calling card in the air
and shoots a hole through it.
"Tell the marshal I'm ready when he is."
The next day Jack is preparing for the showdown.
Jack sets up a number of targets and is about to practise when Starr comes along.
"Checking your eyesight Jack?"
"I ain't that old Clive."
"Just keep your killing on the U.S. side."
"Hey old timer, how does 4 0'clock sound?"
"How much them Clancey boys payin' you anyhow?"
"The goin' price, 50 if I hit ya, 100 if I kill ya."
Starr tries out Jack's targets, he hits them all with 6 shots. Jack does the same but only uses 5.
"Good shootin' marshal but you only fired five shots."
"I may be old, but I ain't stupid, the last one's fer you."
Back at Marie's: Clive tells her that Lucy's aunt Amanda died six weeks ago. She will have to go
to an orphanage.
Jack has a coffee in the saloon: "I ain't a gamblin'
man, but I'd be right curious to know what they're
bettin' on."
"They're betting on your gunfight with Starr."
"Ya? What are the odds?"
"They're favoring Starr."
"Are you serious?"
"He's younger than you marshal, but I'm betting on you."
Later Bennett tries to talk "some sense" into Craddock. "I don't want you killed."
"What makes you think that's gonna happen?"
"Come on Jack, if not this time maybe next."
Willie comes in to talk to Bennett. "You can't send Lucy to an orphanage, it ain't fair."
Clive: "That's the law Willie."
"It ain't fair marshal, everyone she cares about is dead.
I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me."
Starr's voice is heard yelling from the street.
"It's time marshal!"
Jack removes his holster and tells Willie to stay inside.
Willie tells Jack his birthday is comin' up. "My uncle
says I'll be old enough to shoot a gun. Will you teach me
marshal?"
"Sure Willie, I even got a gun you can have."
"No gun? You yeller?"
"Nope, I just don't wanna have ta kill ya."
"Do ya wanna die fer a meazly hundred dollars?"
"My gun's been hired marshal, it's the code of the west."
"You kill me and that woodpecker up there is probably
gonna arrest ya. Least ways you won't get to spend yer $100
As Starr walks away he says,"I'm gonna tell everyone yer a coward."
"Least ways I ain't no dinosaur."
Meanwhile: Marie asks Lucy to stay with her. "Can I call you aunt Marie?"
"I'd like that very much Lucy."
