| Henry Jordan is the only candidate in the election for mayor of Bordertown. Alexandra Cord, |
| owner and operator of the frontier News, is not giving him much support in her paper. |

| Alexandra asks the marshal what he will do for work after |
| the election. "Don't see as that'll be a problem ma'am." |
| "So Jordan bought you too did he?" |

| Craddock explains that he can't be "bought" and |
| "I don't see no need for a mayor anyhow." |
| Alexandra delivers her papers to Marie's store, they are talking when Marie notices smoke |
| coming from the Frontier News building. |

| The fire is extinguished, and Jack investigates. |
| "Any idea who mighta done this?" |
| "Anyone who can read marshal, I guess that |
| leaves you off the suspect list." |
| Jack asks Jeffries what he is doing back in town. "Just meetin' with the citizens marshal." |
| "Where were you this afternoon?" Jeffries says he was at Mr. Jordan's ranch fixing a wagon |
| wheel. "Ya, well I'll be checkin' on that." Jordan tells Jack to go ahead "seeing how it could be |
| your last official duty as marshal." Jordan has promised the job to Jeffries if he wins. |

| Later at the detachment Jack tells Clive, "Well |
| it's just a job ain't it, no big deal. You know, come |
| to think of it, this is the longest I ever held a job, |
| 'cept the army, think the pay was the same too." |
| The door opens and Jeffries walks in. |

| Jack: "How come you ain't out shootin' at farmers Jeffries?" |
| Jeffries: "Just takin' a look around", Clive tells him to get out, "I'll be back corporal, as your |
| equal." |
| Jack doesn't seem disturbed by the scene, he remains at |
| his desk, leaning back in his chair. Clive resumes reading |
| the paper, a few moments pass and without looking up he |
| says to Jack,"You know, all of a sudden, you don't seem |
| so bad." |
| Later in the saloon, Diane overhears the marshal ask Alexandra if she has any job notices for |
| help wanted, in her paper. She tells Zac that the marshal will loose his job if Jordan wins the |
| election. |

| "Do you know what this town will be like with |
| Jeffries as marshal?" |
| Before Zac can answer, Diane tells the patrons at the |
| saloon that Zac is running for mayor. |

| Jack, Clive & Alexandra are relieved. |
| Alexandra prints a glowing article about Zac Denny, she is not so kind towards his opponent. |

| Henry Jordan insists the corporal put a stop to this |
| "Canadian" paper interferring in an American election. |
| Clive tells him he can't stop Americans from buying the paper. When they get outside, Jordan |
| tells Jeffries to destroy the newspaper press. That night, Jeffries does as he is told, he smashes |
| the press. |
