All For One
Marshal Craddock is mendin' his gunbelt when corporal Bennett arrives with a prisoner he had
been tracking all night. "Where'd ya find 'im?"
Craddock grins.
Clive sits by the stove to get warm.
"If ya hadda listened to me in the first place
Jack tells Clive a letter came for him, "If I can just find it."
"What did you do Jack, shine your boots with it?"
" Now come on Clive, you know I never shine my boots."
Clive opens the letter and looks at Jack,
"I've been offered a promotion."
"Huh, fancy that, a sergeant in Bordertown." the marshal shrugs.
Clive explains that he will have to leave Bordertown for re-assignment at Fort Fraser.
As the two compadres step outside, they see Wilbur Rawson getting off the stage.
"Guess you'll be gettin' paid more, I never had much
use for money myself."
"Sounds like you don't want me to go Jack."
"Naw, I just don't wanna have ta coddle another woodpecker after I just got finished trainin' you."
He tells Marie his news, she is so happy she kisses him. He doesn't tell her he is leaving.
Clive is writing a letter accepting his promotion when Marie steps into his quarters.
Jack watches Rawson playing poker and bragging about his money. There is an arguement at the
card table. Jack has a few words with Rawson and tells him to put his money in the bank, "So's I
don't have ta go chasin' after whoever steals it from ya." Rawson takes the marshal's advice, BUT
he makes Wendell sign a promisory note, that he will replace the $10,000 if it is stolen.
and while Jack is busy in the saloon..........
Clive is busy proposing to Marie.
"If I accept this promotion I have to leave Bordertown. I don't want to leave without you.
Marie, will you marry me?"
The lovely doctor bides her time and doesn't give the corporal an answer right away.
(he rumages through the junk on his desk)
Clive mimics Jack's voice.
you wouldn't be sittin' there shiv'ren'."
"On the eastern side of Crane Lake."
"Ya know Clive, if you'da listened ta me in the first place...."
Craddock leans back in his chair and smiles.
Later at the saloon:
