| UNSEARCHABLE FAITH
"So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, 'Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." Luke 2:15 NKJV It is human nature to question everything beyond reason. But, did you notice? The shepherds did not say, "Let us now go and see if this thing is come to pass." Rather, they said, "Let us now go and see this thing which is come to pass." They had heard the Christmas Gospel, and they believed it implicitly - never a question. If only our modern world could throw away its doubt, its skepticism, its unbelief in the presence of the Christmas story! If only it could go and see and -- believe! The peace, the love, the joy of Christmas, can be taken into the human heart alone by faith. We can talk about the Babe in the manger, we can sing our Christmas carols, we can thoroughly enjoy our many Christmas television specials, we can join in the gaiety of the season, but if we have not accepted the Child of Bethlehem by faith, we have missed the heart and core of Christmas. Well has the poet said: Though Christ a thousand times in Bethlehem is born, If He's not born in thee, then thou art still forlorn. Faith is the hand that reaches out across the years and brings the Savior with His blessings --the blessings of love, of tender mercy, and, above all, of divine forgiveness -- into our hearts and homes. These are the lasting blessings of Christmas. Let us, therefore, reach out with the hand of faith and grasp the infant hand of our divine Redeemer, inviting Him tenderly: Ah, dearest Jesus, holy Child, Make Thee a bed, soft, undefiled, Within my heart that it may be A quiet chamber kept for Thee!
