Above: After a trip on the Shinkansen we arrived on the island of Kyushu and first
met Itsuka's mother's mother (Itsuka's other grandmother) who is
living alone in the family house.
Above and below: We stayed with Itsuka's Uncle and Aunt in their large house.
That night we enjoyed a gathering of the family in Kyushu, including lots of eating,
drinking and singing!
Below: During the week spent in Kyushu we also met other family members, including
the son and daughter of Itsuka's uncle, who play kendo. We watched them
in action and were honoured with a signed souvenir from the event.
We also spent some time with Teiji and Hiroko, friends who took us on a tour of the beautiful area,
eating spots, scenic locations and historic buildings.
Travelling to the main city of the Fukaoka prefecture we visited a tall building
that availed spectacular views (above) and then went on to visit an art exhibition in a
gallery (below). The artwork was by none other than Itsuka's uncle and we not only
enjoyed viewing his work and interviewing him about them, but we surprised
when he gave one piece to us as a gift!
After several more social events with family, it was finally time to say goodbye...
