The High Park Project

Students in the grade 10 strings class at Parkdale Collegiate in Toronto, Canada have been composing music to commemorate elements of High Park. To learn more about High Park click here. We are working collaboratively within our school to present the history, various oral histories, as our own impressions of High Park. Other departments that are also involved are the English, Visual Art and Drama.

On this website you will find various midi files of students compositions that they are presently working on. I will update the site as students continue to compose their piece of music.

Compositional Method

The students were asked to compose a short piece that centred around a theme. The theme should focus on one element of High Park (e.g. spring, Grenadier Pond, etc.). Once they had composed that particular theme they were to harmonize it and develop it further using various compositional techniques. The theme itself is to function as the A section and the B section is a development of the theme. The final piece in its entirety will be in ABA form.
