| Written by Co-Editor, Chris Stuckmann Batman came out in the year of 1989, and the 80's still seem pretty prominent in this movie. Especially with all of the Prince music. The role of Batman/Bruce Wayne is played by Michael Keaton, who in my opinion, is still the best Batman. And Jack Nicholson plays The Joker, who now, when I think about it, seems like the absolute best choice for the part. Kim Basinger plays the damsel in distress, who is somewhat interested in Bruce Wayne, but probably even more with Batman. Director Tim Burton does very well with creating the gothic atmosphere of Gotham City, which could best be described as a very foggy New York. The atmosphere of this film seems to reflect Batman's roots much better then the movies that aren't directed by Burton. (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin). Michael Keaton hits the right note as Batman, and I still haven't seen a better job of the portrayal. Perhaps Christian Bale will do well in the upcoming Batman Begins. Jack Nicholson is humorously crazy as The Joker, who seems also to have an interest in Kim Basinger's character, which creates even more conflict between him and Batman. This is a worthy effort on the part of the filmmakers, and they should be proud of what they've accomplished. |
