Abstract of Thesis
Hospital design is among the most complicated of all building types. The functioning of the hospital depends primarily upon the various complex environmental technology systems and services located within the physical plant
The thesis mainly deals with the mechanical and plumbing systems within a hospital while the other systems like electrical, fire safety, natural gas, laboratory air and vacuum systems are also discussed with the main systems
The main goals of the thesis are to understand the major provisions of the various building codes for the environmental technology systems in hospitals, to determine how these environmental technology systems can be designed to meet the requirements of building codes for hospitals, and to examine the various systems that operate behind the scenes to make the hospital a totally functional unit
