POETRY
DUET

The pace of bittersweet intentions
Slows and fades into twilight
When glistening eyes and anticipation
Give hint to a lover's high

Such a bevy of thoughts entangled
Wound securely to the intended's heart
Breathing a sigh of relief
That love doesn't depend on some enchanted star

Sweet emotions stubbornly alive
As any concerns have scampered off
Peering through a veil of perfection
That's a misleading, seemingly perpetual, loft

A shameless flying duet
Leaning on lovers' light, blinded by the sun
Never wincing at the boiling heat
That evaporates fuzzy dreams, one by one
DANDELION

Aside from simple turmoil
A naked dandelion lay
Blown and torn apart
From winds wicked and astray

Its beauty strewn in pieces
Across the golden field
Never once did it fight back
Only to the master did it yield

It breathes with gasps and chokes
Its mane adorning the air
Only seconds from an ending
Though fainting and unaware

It limps with such sour pity
A life forgotten from its birth
Only to live for others
As its grave nourishes the earth
CHAINS

There are imagined chains
We assign ourselves
That scar and bruise
Until it's discovered
We can take them apart
By stepping over fear,
Like a bump in the road.
Wounds said to bleed us
Can be dismissed
Like a gentle, passing breeze.
And there's more hope in knowing
We cannot live without ourselves
Or face ourselves without
Our very own consciousness.
We are here for the duration of our lives
And lending someone else the reins
Hands over our happiness
Much too willingly.
And fear remains within us
Trapped in our very own chains.
COMING OF AGE

Rainfall hints of its presence
With little scattered drips,
Whispering its arrival gently
Progressively falling
Until its quiet breath shreaks.
The lightning shatters darkness
And thunder screams with anger......
Winds rebel in fury
To taunt naive victims
Who see fear and wince
And break those who refuse to bend.
PEBBLES

In reality,
Aren't we all afraid
Of the bluest eyes,
The widest sea,
The vast, cloudless sky -
Anything that makes us feel
Smaller than we want to feel.
'Cause we hold ourselves in esteem
Whether or not we deserve
Some sort of praise or recognition.
There's a pain that accompanies
Finding that we are only pebbles
Off the majestic mountain
That we once thought we were.
DRIFTING

A shift of reality
Aftervisions of places, people
Absorbing what's left of now
To find a bit of warmth
In the fear of an undisclosed future.
When scales fall from eyes
To see light that's fresh
That hasn't dimmed by the hands of living,
To relax shoulders ravaged by tension
And the fear of letting go of pain
Just because it's your normalcy.
And it's easier to ride the rocky waves
If you know nothing of the calm quiet
Of drifing.

PANDORAS BOX

I'm trying my best to slow the paces
To keep the truth at bay.
You've been such a godsend
That I just can't fathom what you'd say
(But you've got a way with me)

I could do much worse on my own.
You keep me from self-destruction,
While you keep the sweetest sayings,
Filling up life's little captions.
(On my own it seems I'm nothing)

I'm a bit unsteady with the shakes
And you just haven't got a clue
That all this is kept inside of me
To keep from losing you.

Tell me what you'd say if I told you
I'm the world inside Pandora's box;
I'm the girl you're trying to open
That everyone says to keep locked.

I glide through them with such ease,
Although a perfect secret.
They analyze and scrutinize the surface --
A distraction to interpret.

It's a shame they just don't know
Or are just too blind to see,
That I'm sitting on my own universe,
And they're just part of a galaxy.

All the world's silent "evils"
Could stretch their legs for at least once,
If you'd only peek at this precious treasure
To see that you'd never get enough.
UNBREAKABLE

Destroyed and Deranged,
An exquisite specimen without flaw
Has found herself imprisoned,
Severely contorted and broken.

Relentless and Resistant,
Stale crumbs of life are shunned
When shackles tighten their grip
As implosion masquerades as silence.

Complacent and Compliant,
The immovable force of mediocrity
Burst open fragile links of faith
With remaining jagged edges of acceptance.

Withheld and Withdrawn,
A slight of sanity beckons inquisition,
Breaks the mold of delusions,
Keeping the secrets within.

Unbreakable and Unrestrained,
A furlong of dwindling perceptions
Within the occasional psychotic
Is reinvigorated with new oxygen.
GRAND ENTRANCE

Earths thick carpet
All but glows in its luscious richness
And those raindrops --

drip-drop

Quenching the thirst of a brittle turf.
The sky flashes
As the soil trembles at the violent cracks and rumbles.
The tree trunks stand motionless,
Stationary in their might --
In their stances of power.
As the wind begins to scream,
The branches sway
In voluntary submission.
Sprinkles of blossoms
Strain to taste the sweet air
And life anew.
Warm blood scurries
Out of burrows bent and mangled by winter.
They stretch red-eyed
With sleeps residue yet remaining,
But it soon falls away
With this freshened life,
Bubbling from the atmosphere
That is the precious skin of this season.
PURE ENERGY

The grim reaper hasn't claimed me as a victim
Only as a tortured soul
Broken by the weight of gravity
The pen in hand tends to collapse
When the power has drained from limbs
And weakness keeps me in captivity

I bellow many silent screams
With strength to do nothing more
And stubborn eyelids that are magnetized
These chains can only be felt
As others jeer my "imagined" state
And accuse me of a matter dramatized

People offer unsolicited advice
Of magic herbs and treadmills
That may only twist the knife
They lack the knowledge in accuracy
As the tension and pain that creeps under my skin
Has vigor and is full of life

I escape in imagined places
That fondle my heart with calm
No matter how strange the fantasy
With only the sense of conquer
And a purpose I can attain
If only for a moment of pure energy
ATTEMPT AT CREATION

I feel the most fleeting security
Among the petals of the Dutchmans Breeches.
These creamy, silent fields
Play the symphony of how far this memory reaches.

With the sprinkle of spark or flame,
I pretended to be wholeheartedly emblazoned.
In a flickering photo reel of remembrance,
Im a forgotten princess, lost and brazen.

The straggle of aimless butterflies inside
Can be construed and misunderstood many ways.
The accelerating heart palpitations
Gave  excuse to conjure predictions beyond today.

I created this "kingdom" with the richest strength,
Settled on tall mountains of majesty.
But the walls caved like hollow thoughts,
And shone their true faces as empty dreams.

My purpose was valiant and mighty--
Creation of love through faith and hope.
Though I was taught along the way,
The most candescent star will lose its glow.
TRACES

I recall the day the winds came
The plague of drought began to creep.
Miniscule hives and colonies
Scattered and surrendered beneath.
Preying the earth for currents of sympathy.

Freshly-grown sprigs of flowers
Dehydrated and fell to naught,
As once-luscious blooms fainted,
And by the brittle sands were caught.
On fatigued skies are grim faces painted.

The warped, degenerate trunk rebels
Against cruel gusts of desert air.
Traces of the mighty oak only twinkle
In the mind's eye with a ghastly stare.
The brow of heaven furrows in wrinkle.

Yet, time parallels an antidote
With healing power of a miracle
The cure tiptoes as a stalker
With stealth, both rare and critical.
Potions break from their wayward saunter.

Oh! What sweet caress
Of a tepid wind gently cooled!
Limbs disfigured and contorted
Are what I'd grown accustomed to.
The unraveling of an epiphany distorted.

Sunbeams reek of Almighty
With illumination to resurrect.
Rays dig their hands into the soil
In order to rewind and correct.
As the demon of death slinks and recoils.

Cloud puffs boast of promise
And mountains nudge the change.
Aromas of wellness perforate
As this malady loses its trace.
The enigma of life hastens to illuminate.
REMORSE

Remorse is emotion,
Blanketed under reverse,
Resorting backward,
To review the spring of life,
And avoid winter harvest.

The skin of your teeth
Is within inches of me.
I lack the knowledge,
But not the understanding.
We'll regret this tomorrow.
