What MCJROTC Teaches: It provides instruction in the development of good habits and attitude, problem solving techniques, the essential characteristics for success, civic and group leadership, and planning to meet the challenges of adult life. The program places emphasis in the following areas:
The Leadership Training Curriculum at USHS is the most important aspect of our program. The subject matter presented in this course will include leadership principles, traits and provide an opportunity to practice these techniques in the role as superiors, amon peers and as subordinates. This course or instruction will present military customs, traditions and history. It also presents essential military subjects to provide students with knowledge and purpose of the national defense structure. Cadets take part in community service projects. The cadets take pride in working with the community and helping those in need. Drill is a valuable part of our training. It teaches mental and physical discipline. It also fosters teamwork, cooperation, and group spirit. Cadets in mastering drill develop pride, poise, and self-confidence, along with a sense of accomplishments. Cadets engage in an effective physical conditioning program on a continuing and progressive basis. Cadets may elect to take MCJROTC to satisfy the requirements of Physical Education. As of 2001, each year of JROTC taken is a full time elective. Cadets learn the value of good health and how to administer first aid when needed. Cadets are also afforded the opportunity to learn CPR. The cadets at USHS are taught problem solving through mediation. These valuable lifelong skills will help the cadet in making their own sound decissions in resolving disputes peacefully and creating positive alternatives to violence. The cadets work together and learn about each other's culture. They are taught the value of diversity and how to appreciate and respect each other for who they are. The U.S. Marine Corps has found marksmanship training to be an excellent tool to teach self-discipline and responsibility. All cadets are provided the opportunity and are highly-encouraged to participate in this training. Cadets are taught to respect all weapons and how to keep them safe. The weapons utilize for training is the pellet rifle. For the cadets that truly enjoy this training, they may become a member of our competitive shooting teams. An undestanding of individuals and small groups is necessary in our group-oriented society. It is important to understand the methods by which individuals and groups develop and achieve goals. |
