"If all the years were playing holidays,
To sport would be as tedious as to work.
But when they come, they wish'd for come.."

some time to breathe

Feeling...: lackadaisical. Life is a cookie. (lol...America's Sweethearts was on TV the other day..)
Listening to: a bunch of new downloads; Nelly Furtado's second CD is surprisingly good, a little off-beat but enjoyable. Also, thanks to a new P2P software introduced by Farah called BearShare, I've been able to find almost all the Petula Clark songs I've been looking for. Now I'm just brushing up on their lyrics for karaoke night...heh heh heh
Excitement brewing over: so much right now...1) going for my G2 test on Monday and my chances of passing are looking very good; 2)Horizons (leadership conference at Mac) is coming up next weekend (!!); 3) countdown to Move-Out Day (henceforth referred to as MOD), September 4th: 29 days!!!
Concerned about: slightly worried I'll make some kind of stupid mistake during my driving test and fail...as it is I'll only be around to drive for the next three weeks, I can't afford to lose more of that time because of some right-of-way-enforcing pedestrian...*sigh*
People/things that made me smile: re-connecting with Farah. Montreal was awesome, and she's home for the rest of the month...and she has a new puppy!! :D
New thing(s) Ive learned: puppies have very sharp little teeth...
On My Mind:I'm about 100 pages into "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder, a novel about the history of philosophy recommended to me by Julia a while back. It's the kind of book where you read for a little bit and then stop to chew over everything that's just been presented to you. There are parts of it that are slightly abstract but overall it makes sense. I just have to take it slowly or else I get a little dizzy...
Additional witty comments (heh heh heh): (several days later....) I never got to finish this entry the day I started it, but I'll fill in what's been going on in between:

I failed my G2 test :D Oh man it was the last crappy thing that happened in a day that started out fine and then got progressively weirder through the afternoon. About 45 minutes before I left the house my sister and her friend (who was over at the time) and I decided to have burgers for lunch, and I was toasting the buns in the toaster oven. When they were done I went to take them out but pulled the grill too fast and one fell off the back of the grill and onto the oven's coil and caught fire. Panicking, I tried to remove the grill completely so that I could reach the flaming bun with a fork but I did so with my bare hands, burning my fingers on the metal and then dropping the rest of the buns on the floor as I quickly released the grill. (Hopefully you're following this...) I managed to get the bun off the coil and into the sink but by this time two of the only three buns we had in the house were either on the floor or charred. So Shaz and her friend ran to buy some more and by the time they got back, I had about ten minutes to scarf down a burger and run out the door. Not a great start for the day of your driving test...

Anyway, I got into the car with Amir, my driving instructor, and we pull out and he told me we had to pick up another guy who was taking his road test as well, but for the second time, and that he lives near Steeles and Don Mills. I was thinking, Hmmmm, that's near my high school, maybe I know him. It turns out it was a guy I was friends with in grade 12 but sort of stopped talking to when he asked me out and I...wasn't interested. (Basically he caught me by surprise. I thought we were friends and he liked my *personality*, he had other plans...)

Took the highway to the testing facility in Oshawa, which was slightly tensing at first since it was the second time I've ever driven on it, and then when we got there the guy who was with us took his test first and got the same evaluator as the last time - and she'd failed him on a minor technicality. So I was sitting there, waiting for them to come back and the whole time I was thinking, So much for getting my licence. I swear, when it came time to just bite the bullet and go, I got the feeling that she could smell fear. Most of the test went well but at the end she told me I'd have to try again since I "lacked confidence" - I was doing 40km/h in an unmarked residential zone, where I should have been doing 50km/h. In the end it didn't really make much difference to me that I couldn't drive for the remaining three weeks before I leave for school, so oh well. Better luck next time..

Horizons was last weekend and it was a lot of fun. The actual leadership part of the conference was kinda redundant, I thought - there was never that "damn, I'd never looked at it that way" moment. But it was definitely a great way to meet some other first year students and to try out residence life - and to reinforce my satisfaction over having a single room (I won't go into detail...just use your imagination.)

Finally burned a Petula Clark's Greatest Hits CD. Those songs have been making me undeniably happy since before I could even walk, and now I can listen to them without having to consider the lack of an LP player in the bathroom (singing in the shower truly is one of life's greatest pleasures :D )

Oh, one last thing. There's been a decidedly large discrepancy between the number of hits my main page gets (love that counter!!) and the number of new signatures in my guestbook. I always appreciate some constructive criticism ;)

Take me home!
