tsk tsk tsk...shame on me, i know
*sigh* it's been a while since my last update, I know...I like to think I have some sort of fan base, people who sit at their computer and hang off of my every word...spare me my delusional hopes and dreams, thanks. Anyway, what was keeping me so busy lately was a sort of summer day camp organized by some friends and I. For a week, four councellors (myself included) and nine kids ran amok throughout the city, visiting the likes of the Hockey Hall of Fame (although I have to say, I don't really feel much luckier after touching the famed Olympic loonie...), Center Island, Ontario Place, the Skydome...oh and let's not forget the most enriching place of all, Amaan's house -- pure sarcasm... Hah hah hah. I'm BACK. (You know you missed me!!)
And I have to just add this last bit in...I'm posting all this via my sister's brand new laptop...and these keys are simply DELICIOUS!! (not quite on sponge level, but CLOSE...)

Apparently, some of us still DO listen to techno...
"Moby has fired back at Eminem after the white rapper targeted him in his single, "Without Me", referring to the singer as a "36-year-old baldheaded fag" who is "too old, let go, it's over, nobody listens to techno." Eminem has also worked a mock execution of Moby into his live show.
" 'He shoots me on stage, he dresses up like me in the video, he talks about having *ahem* with me in his song. I've figured it out. He has a crush on me,' said Moby in an interview with MuchMusic during his recent visit to Toronto with Area:Two. 'At some point he found out that I was straight and he's so upset and hurt, the fact that he has this unrequited crush on me, that's why he's so upset.'
- The Toronto Star, 08/09/02
This is why I love Moby. Eminem is amusing at best, but he fails to appeal with his personality (or lack thereof). These ongoing animosities between Eminem and - well, everyone are obviously intended to draw attention to him, but you'd think he'd at least read some of the feedback in the papers and magazines...I have yet to come upon an article that pats him on the back, congratulates him for his efforts, or says anything other than what an ass he's making of himself.
Although it must be said, he's doing a great job of making his "victims" look good...

Hm. Prized horses indeed
I was reading about the Woodbine racetrack fire in the paper yesterday; there was an article about a couple who worked at the tracks, taking care of the horses (grooming, feeding, etc.) and they lived in a room adjoined to one of the barns which caught fire. Apparently there were no precautions in place whatsoever, not even a fire alarm of any kind; this couple was awakened by the sound of the horses, terrified by the fire, running around in their stalls...trapped and defenseless. Not only was the couple and many others in their position put into danger, but 31 horses died in the blaze...a number which could have been significantly lower had there been some kind of warning before the flames spread throughout the barn. And even now, after this disaster, installing fire alarms and/or a sprinkler system "will be discussed".
I find this absolutely disgusting...this is not the first time a barn has caught fire, either. How many times will it have to happen before they start to treat these horses as more than just money-making tools? I find it a little hard to believe that they can't afford a few smoke detectors for their "prized horses".

GAAAH! Where'd the summer GO??
Uh-oh...today is exactly one month until school starts again...actually, if you don't consider the actual work aspect of it, school's not so bad...I'm looking forward to a normal year, since grade 11's been anything BUT normal.
Strange to think, though, that this is it. This is our last year of high school...it feels like it's gone by all too quickly.
Suddenly I feel older than I'd like to...
