My first vivarium was a REALLY bad design.  I couldn't get to my water pump and unfortunately, it had to be replaced.  Needless to say, this was soon taken apart and rebuilt.  However, I am including the photos and information, because even though it wasn't a very good set-up, it was a good example of a 50/50 tank (50 % water and 50% land).

I built this tank using a 10 gallon aquarium and the plastic grid from a florescent light fixture.  These grids are cheap, readily available at any hardware store and are easy to work with.

This set-up housed my 3 bumblebee toads (or creeping toads).

My new vivarium is below.

My replacement vivarium was also made with plastic grid.  To hold the land area up, I used plastic plumbers pipe.  Two 2" pieces were fixed to the bottom, back section of the grid using aquarium sealant and two 1 1/2" pieces were used in the front, bottom section.  This achieved a slooped affect.  I then covered the entire bottom with screen.  I made sure that the screen covered the open sides that went under the land area and placed river stones along the entire bottom, effectively sealing under the land.  To make the water feature and filter the water, I added a small pump to the left back corner and placed a piece of driftwood for the water to flow down.  To keep the water on the other side of the tank from stagnating, I have added an air stone.  My bumblebee toads are now housed here.  I made sure to add fern and plenty of little areas for them to hide in.
