THE GODDESS
She closed the door to her bathroom, pressed the lock, and slowly shed her clothing. Standing on the edge of her hideous, sickly yellow tub, she studied her reflection in the wall-length mirror. She had never considered herself beautiful, not even pretty. All she had been known as was cute. God, how she despised that word! Kittens were cute, so were toddlers, but fourteen-year-old girls arent cute!
Never had she been called lovely or sexy. Only and always, cute. She sighed, and reached up with a tiny hand, brushing a stray copper curl out of her vision. She was tiny for her age. Only 5 foot tall and weighing a mere 80-something pounds, she now realized why everyone was so careful with her. 'They think Ill break, like a glass vase when dropped by a clumsy child' she thought, sighing once again.
Her navy blue eyes, with their unusual yellow sunbursts in the middle, continued to pick apart her appearance. Her skin was ghostly pale, her eyebrows dark and arched. Long lashes surrounded her eyes, while her naturally curled coppery hair danced past her broad shoulders.
She tucked her hair behind her ears and turned to the side, appraising her profile. She licked her pouty lips, wondering how she could compare herself to her exotically beautiful friends. She was nothing more than average. She faced herself once more, watching her average sized chest raise and fall with each breath she took.
She lifted her arms slowly, studying them. More fat then muscle, yet they appeared to be only skin and bone. She flicked her narrow wrists experimentally, watching her slim fingers with fascination. Her black-coated nails contrasted her paleness greatly and she allowed a slight smile.
She returned her attention to her mirror twin. Flexing her abs, she grinned. A giggle escaped from between her lips as memories of her past 3 years in Junior High danced before her eyes. They were of all the times she had received compliments on her body and how all the popular people had come up to her at least once and asked How do you stay so thin?. She laughed a little louder as her response was revealed; Wellif you really want to knowI eat a lot of food, never exercise, and sit on my ass all the time! She grinned, remembering a conversation shed had last Friday with a guy who adored her writing and thought she was extremely gifted. He had asked what she looked like. After a brief description, he had exclaimed she was a goddess! She had laughed. Her a goddess? It couldnt be true! A few days later, during a conversation with this same guy, she had asked for evidence on her being a goddess. His response was: Okay, I'll tell you how I see you just through your words (and that's only the beginning)... Your beautiful and graceful... pure (even though you'll say your not... but I think you are) and honest... beautiful... funny... dominant... lovely... a true cutie!... not shy (which is great... and which sucks about me!), but very open... not a gutter-head like myself... brilliant... poetic to the fullest.... which leads to your amazing talents... your simply the most beautiful and greatest of all.. and I could keep going on forever! She had blushed a deep deep crimson. That night, she stood in front of the mirror once more, as she had in the beginning, and finally realized she was beautiful, and that her friend hadn't lied when he had said she was a goddess... - - - - -
