ROCK BOTTOM

With every step I take
My foot catches and I stumble
Falling upon battered knees
My head lowered in shame
I await the triumphant laughter
The customary verbal abuse
But silence greets my ears
No snide remarks
No stinging insults
Cautiously I raise my head
You�re not even there
Standing slowly,
I look about with wary eyes
No one�s around...
Surrounded by nothing except a dark void
A faint sound is heard
I glance up quickly
My heart fluttering with hope
Far above me, a pinprick of light
Reality...
So far away
I sit down, defeated
For it has hit me
I�ve finally fallen for the last time
No one can save me now
