| Chapter Four | ||||
| Slowly the man turned around and smiled at her. Melissa looked up at him and slowly felt her body starting to go numb from staring into his piercing blue eyes. "Wha... what are you doing here?" She finally choked out. "I just came by to see if everything was okay, since I didn't see you at the concert." "I am so sorry about that. I got caught up here, we almost lost one of the patient's tonight." Melissa replied, fidgeting nervously with the drawstring on her scrubs. "Are you ok?" JC laughed, noticing Melissa's nervousness. "Umm, yeah I'm fine. Um, just a little worn out I guess." Melissa laughed, slightly, trying to cover her actions up. She was extremely confused with the way she was reacting to JC. Earlier today she was just fine, but seeing him again was triggering raging emotions inside of her that she hadn't felt in a long time. "Well what time do you get off? I was kinda hoping we could go somewhere and just talk, since we really didn't get a chance to talk earlier today." JC smiled. "Well actually I was supposed to get off hours ago, I was just sticking around to go over a few of the charts." Just then Skylar came barging out of the nurses lounge. "And I said that I would finish them for you, so get out of here already, I'm sick of seeing your face." Skylar laughed. "I really don't know, I need to finish those charts myself." Melissa said, trying to think of a way to et out of this, before she started getting closer to JC. "Aww, come on, please?" JC said, pouting playfully. Melissa sighed and smiled, "You don't play fair. Besides, look at you. You look great and I'm in hospital scrubs." "Well they're cute scrubs, you don't see many with little baby animals all over them." JC teased. "Hey, they're pediatric hospital scrubs." Melissa laughed, defensively. "Ok, well here's an idea. Since you're being so persistant about going somewhere, and I really don't wanna be seen in public wearing this, how about you just come to my house?" Melissa questioned, fidgeting with her drawstring again. "Ok, sounds great to me. Just give me directions and I'll be there. What time are you getting out of here?" "Umm, come over in about 30 minutes. I have to finish up some things here, then I'm going home." Melissa replied. Melissa quickly jotted down directions to her house and gave them to JC. She smiled and watched him leave, silently cursing herself for giving in to her emotions. She sighed to herself and quickly ran around the hopsital, finishing up everything she had to do. 15 minutes later, Melissa finally arrived back at her house. She quickly ran inside and up the stairs to take a quick shower and to change her clothes. "I don't need to impress him, this is silly." she thougt to herself as she was deciding on what to wear. She finally decided on a tight, fitted purple sweater, and her favorite pair of khaki cargo pants with black boots. She curled her hair slightly like she always did and put on some light makeup. She studied her reflection in the mirror and laughed slightly to herself. She always looked totally different when she was at home. Because at work, her hair was always pulled up into a tight ponytail or a clip, when she wore her hair down, she always looked like a completely different person. As she finished slipping her watch and rings back on, she heard her doorbell. She quickly raced down the stairs and opened up the door. "Hey." She smiled, stepping back to let him in. JC stood there, almost unable to move. He was totally blown away with the woman that stood in front of him. He had thought she was beautiful from the first time he layed eyes on her, but now, beautiful was an understatement to her, "Wow, you look great." He smiled, stepping inside. "Thanks," Melissa said, shutting the door behind him. JC shook his head quickly, when he realized he was staring at her. He sighed, thankful that she hadn't noticed and sat down beside Melissa on the huge leather couch. Melissa grabbed the remote and flipped on the tv, "Wanna catch a movie?" She asked, flipping through the pay-per-view channels. "Sure, sounds good to me." he replied. "Ok, well let's see what we got here- American Pie, The General's Daughter, Deep Blue Sea, The Haunting, Wild Wild West..." She continued flipping through the rest of the PPV channels. "American Pie?" JC suggested, "Sure I love this movie." Melissa smiled as she started pushing buttons on her remote to order the movie. "Enjoy the previews, I'm gonna go make some popcorn." Melissa laughed, as she stood up and walked into the kitchen. JC laughed, and got up to follow her, "Oh, no you don't. You're not leaving me in there alone with all the previews." She laughed and pulled out some popcorn and tossed it into the microwave, then pulled out a large bowl, "Aww, come on, you're not THAT bad." She teased. "Ha! Speak for yourself!" JC laughed, leaning up against the counter. Melissa smiled and opened the fridge, "Okay, I got Mt. Dew, Sprite, or Coke." "Mt. Dew's fine." JC said, pulling the popcorn out of the microwave, pouring it into the bowl. Melissa grabbed 2 cans of Mt. Dew, and they both planted themselves back on the couch, just as the previews were ending. "We couldn't have timed that better if we tried." Melissa laughed, kicking her feet up on the table. She absentmindedly reached into the bowl of popcorn, just as JC was doing the same. Their hands brushed together lightly, causing them both to draw deep surprised breaths. Melissa looked over at JC as their eyes met. She grinned and threw a piece of popcorn at him. With fast reflexes, JC opened his mouth and caught it. "Oh you showoff." Melissa laughed. About half-way through the movie, JC slung his arm over onto the back of the couch. She could feel the warmth of his hand, hovering over her shoulder. Mere moments later, she felt his hand finally rest upon her shoulder, pulling her close to him. Melissa smiled and willfully snuggled up closer to him as he draped his arm around her shoulder. Soon, the movie was over and Melissa was walking JC to the door, "I'm really glad you came over." She smiled as she opened up the door. "So am I. We'll definatley have to do this again." JC said, looking at her. "Oh, yeah, definatley." She replied, fidgeting with the doorknob. He leaned down and titled her chin up slowly so that she was looking at him. She sighed and looked deeply into his eyes, as he slowly leaned in closer, softly grazing his lips against hers. He pulled away and looked at her, before slowly leaning in to kiss her again. She sighed and layed her hand on his cheek. He smiled and layed his hand on hers, "Bye Melissa." JC smiled, before walking out the door and back out to his car. Five |
