The day finally came when we STAINED the bare wood.  It was a bit of a shock to see it *dark* after seeing it in the light, bare state for so long, but it matches the woodwork perfectly.
And then the first coat of polyurethane was applied.  Notice the difference between the plain stained floor (where you see my dh's hand at the right corner) and the shiny poly'd floor.
After two coats of polyurethane.  The flash makes it look lighter than it actually is, but still...it's beautiful!
This picture better shows the true color of the floor. Red Oak.  That's the bottom of the stairs at the top of the picture. We haven't re-finished it yet.  It matches perfect! We're so pleased!
