MONSTER WAKE ZONE: SOUTH JUPITER ISLAND
Lumpy Water & Crowded Conditions In Jupiter, Florida's Narrow Intercoastal Waterway
Monster size wakes are created in the narrow Intercoastal Waterway, north of the Jupiter Route 707 Bridge (south Jupiter Island area.) Photo taken from the north of the bridge looking south (the bridge is seen raised in the distance.)

There are sandbars to the west (screen right.)
There are shoals and a
swimming beach to the east. (screen left.)

There is little room to manuver around wakes, especially wakes from an opposing 46' sport fish.

See the chart location of this area.
View of oncoming traffic.  Picture taken as we traveled northbound. There are half a dozen boats immediately in front of us.  About as many are immediately behind.

  Notice the exposede
sandbar to the left.  Wake are a particular problem at low tide when the channel becomes very narrow.  Boat stay close to center channel to avoid running aground.
The area is a favorite of jet skiers. Friends can park at the east side swimming beach (south Jupiter Island.)

The area is the begininng of a fast speed zone, so large
"boat not on plane yet" wakes are common.  The jet skiers like them.  However, the narrow channel and crowded conditions can be unnerving and dangerous.

It is especially difficult to see
fallen jet skiers and swimmers amongst the lumpy water.

The area is frequently patrolled by law enforcement.
On weekdays, when there isn't a lot of boat traffic, this area can be a calm and very nice place.
