Manx is one of the most fun characters to take the point of view of, in the author's opinion. Haughty and occasionally outright stuck-up, he has a soft spot he refuses to admit to. He often makes references to eating Ratzy, but whether this is simply a running joke for him, or a future possibility, is difficult to figure out. He tends to snub the other battling Pokémon, referring to them with derogatory nicknames when he speaks to them, and refusing to give them the satisfaction of ever letting them know they've impressed him.

Manx was born a wild Meowth, and lived a few months with his mother and brothers. He was separated from them by a cruel Growlithe, who beat him brutally, nearly killing him. He was found by Ivonar's mother, and nursed back to health. As a Meowth he bore a few scars from that incident, but when he evolved into Persian, only one remained with him. When he was a Meowth, the Growlithe had ripped off his tail; when he evolved, it did not grow back. He has a puckered scar where his tail should be, but it's hidden under his fur. It can be questioned if his adoption of the Eevees stems from him losing his own mother, whom he never found.

Manx and Ivonar have an odd relationship. Originally, they could barely stand each other. (Remember how he got into his pokéball?) Now they have a mutual, respectful tolerance of each other, but there are still the occasional problems. Manx sees total obedience as being bad for his trainer, which is the cause for quite a few of their problems. ("She's a bit of a bother, but means well enough.... She is an adequate master, but must be kept in her place. Be sure not to follow too easily. She expects too much when you do." -- from Pallet Pair #3). Most of the rest are from jokes he takes too personally.
