The history of South India, of which Kodagu (Coorg) district is an important part, is replete with magical cures for all sorts of ailments. The ancient Ayurveda & Sidda medicines have a scientifc basis and manner which is sometimes misunderstood by Western science and dubbed "quackery". However the Government of India has given recognition to these practices and institutionalised the system, even encouraging the award of University Degrees in Indian Medicine. The lack of side effects and the remarkable curative properties of natural extracts, purified to a very high degree under the Siddha practice, can be an eye-opener. Western Scientific disbelievers can take a cue from the recent movie shown in the Hallmark TV Channel "Lorenzo's Oil", where a similar method backed by more scientific study has proved the efficacy of a simple mixture of ordinary cooking oils, injested orally, in curing an incurable disease. This has ocurred in the USA in the early 90's with the discoverer being awarded an honorary Medical Degree by the US Government!
