Puppy Info Buying A Puppy You are best to contact the Kennel Club for a list of breeders with puppies, or ask for OES Club secretaries telephone numbers. Always buy from a reputable breeder that will be there for you, incase you ever need advice. A good breeder will always ask you lots of questions so they will be sure that an OES is the right breed for you. You also, can ask the breeder questions, this will show them that you have done your homework. Ask~how long have they been involved with the breed? Have the parents been hip scored? (Average score is around 21)-will they give you a diet sheet & a grooming demonstration? Can you see the mother? Bitches when fully grown will stand around 23 inches/24 inches to the shoulder, Dogs can sometimes grow on up to 30 inches tall. ![]() Puppies OES puppies are born black & white & do not start changing to their grey coat, untill they are around 6 months old. Eye colour can be, 2 brown, 2 blue, or 1 of each colour. When taking a puppy home at about 8 weeks old, give them time to settle in, because they will be missing their brothers & sisters. Once settled in, you must then set the ground rules, as this age onwards is the best age to learn. It will be up to the new owners to ensure that puppies are socialised well with other people & other dogs, short trips in the car & after all injections, gentle road walking. Please remember, that children & adults alike, can over do PLAYTIME in the early days, so make sure that the puppy has got his/her own little place, where he/she can go & rest, to have a bit of peace & quiet. This breed ABSOLUTLY adores human company, is good with children & will do anything to please. ![]() Grooming if you have NEVER owned an Old English sheepdog before, you MUST be aware of how important grooming is & how to cope with their beautiful long coats. To keep them looking lovley, you will need to set aside ONE full day a WEEK, EVERY WEEK. The OES grows very thick undercoat that will mat into a solid piece if left unattended to. When brushing or combing you MUST ALWAYS groom down to the skin, to prevent the mass build up of undercoat. Many people who own OES as a family pet very often have them semi~clipped at a grooming parlour, where they will also, pluck ears, clean teeth & cut hair out in between their pads. If you would like more information on grooming, especially if you are a first time owner of this breed, please ring - 01604 862856(ENGLAND) they will be happy to talk to you about any problems you might have. Also there is a grooming video available.
