Roberto Mignone started his work in this area as a volunteer with an NGO in Ivory Coast for two years (1991-1992).

Subsequently he worked with UNHCR in Mozambique for two years and a half (Field Officer 1993-1995), Guatemala, three years (Head of Field Office, 1995-1998), Panama (Liaison Officer, second half of 1998), Colombia (Programme Officer first half of 1999, Sweden (Regional Protection Officer, two years 1999-2001), and finally Colombia again on secondment to the UNHCHR (as a Human Rights Officer for one year, 2001-2002).
