Tuvalu
Tuvalu, is a member nation of the Commonwealth of Nations and the
Pacific Forum. It consists of nine low coral atolls, formerly known as
the Ellice (or Lagoon) Islands, scattered over the South Pacific Ocean.
These atolls cover an area of just 26 sq km (10 sq mi). The capital of
Fongafale, is located on the island of Funafuti. Tuvalu's population of
10,991 (July, 2001) is predominantly Polynesian (96%). The nine yellow
five-pointed stars on Tuvalu's flag symbolise the nine islands.

Pty Ltd, for the Australian Government, as part of the South Pacific
Forum's Defence Co-operation Programme. This vessel is operated by the
Tuvaluan Police Forces Maritime Surveillance Unit. It is due for a Life
of Type Extension (LOTE) in Australia around 2009.
