Tuvalu
Tuvalu, is a member nation of the Commonwealth of Nations and the Pacific Forum. It consists of nine low coral atolls, formerly known as the Ellice (or Lagoon) Islands, scattered over the South Pacific Ocean. These atolls cover an area of just 26 sq km (10 sq mi). The capital of Fongafale, is located on the island of Funafuti. Tuvalu's population of 10,991 (July, 2001) is predominantly Polynesian (96%).
