Essential Camping Supplies

  • Tent
    • Bass Pro Shop tents are nice, but a similar tent from Wal-Mart/Target is fine (and cheaper)
    • For a first time camper, consider borrowing from a friend to make sure camping is for you and your son.
    • Put your tent together for the first time at home. It’s easier to put together in the dark if you have done it once before.
    • Put it up once you get home to dry and air it out.
  • Sleeping Bag(s)
  • Air Mattress(es) or Cot(s)
    • Not required by ABSOLUTELY recommended
  • Tarp(s)
    • Minimally one to put UNDER your tent to keep the floor of your tent dry.
    • A Second can be used to provide your tent’s rain fly a little extra help during a Florida rain storm
  • Propane Stove
  • Propane Cylinders
    • Always have one or two extras
  • Propane safety lighter (or matches)
  • Broom/Dust Pan
    • This is the outdoors and dirt gets everywhere
  • Folding Chairs
    • Not required by recommended as most places we camp don’t have picnic tables
  • Folding Table
    • Not required by recommended as most places we camp don’t have picnic tables
  • Mallet/Hammer
    • Though most of the places we camp the ground is mostly sand...
  • Paper Towels, Paper Plates, Plastic Forks, Garbage Bags
  • Small Mess Kit (Pots, Pans)
  • Cooking Utensils (Tongs, Spoons, Spatula, etc)
  • Bug Spray and Sun Tan lotion
  • First Aid Kit
