Awards Ceremony and Cookout - On Saturday, May 18, we had our final Pack Meeting at Piney Woods Park. After a wild game of kickball, Scouts and their families chowed down on hamburgers, hot dogs, all the fixin's, and ice cream! Special thanks to Assistant Cubmaster Barron and Webelos Leader Buchner for their grilling expertise, and to Ms. Powell for taking care of dessert. After dinner, our Tiger Cubs showed all they'd done this year with their Tiger advancement poster, and then participated in a special graduation ceremony. They're all ready for the Bobcat trail now! We also handed out Community Service awards to four Cubs, Wolf and Bear badges to another four Cubs, gold and silver arrow points, Webelos activity pins, lots of service pins, and even an attendance pin! Way to go, Michael! Special thanks to the adult leaders for their service all year long. Durham Bulls game - 80 adults, Scouts and siblings attended the Durham Bulls game on Sunday, April 28. There were drawings for prizes during the game, and fun for everyone! Webelos Crossing - The second-year Webelos were awarded their Arrow of Light badges and crossed over to Boy Scouting on Thursday, April 11, at Duke Gardens. Congratulations to the 10 boys who earned Cub Scouting's highest award, and to the Webelos leaders who have been with them since Tigers!
Cake Auction - The Pack 486 Cake Auction was held on Thursday, March 14th, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Our theme was Under the Big Top and the Pack families outdid themselves with their imaginative and beautiful creations! With all the amazing cakes, the freshly made popcorn, the carnival barker auctioning cakes, and the Cubmaster clown running around, the auction seemed like a three-ring circus! We raised lots of money to keep the Pack going and going!
Blue and Gold Banquet - The Blue and Gold Banquet was held on Saturday, February 9, at Hope Valley Baptist Church We handed out lots of Wolf and Bear badges, had great food, and were hilariously entertained by the Webelos. Great fun for everyone!
Pinewood Derby - The Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Hope Valley Baptist Church. Here are this year's winners:
December Pack meeting - The Pack's annual Food For Scouting community service project was a huge success. Den 4 and the Wolverines Patrol tied for first by each collecting mountains of food, and both won a pizza party! We then went on a world tour, finding out which parts of the world have food, drinkable water and money, and which don't. We talked about how peace, caring and giving can help everyone in the world have enough to eat and drink and be healthy and happy. We finished up by letting the Scouts decorate (and eat) freshly baked cookies, singing a rousing rendition of Rudolph the Roadkill Reindeer, and recognizing the "elves" who made all the Pack meeting magic happen. It was awesome!
Yam Jam - We joined lots of other volunteers on a farm near Smithfield on Saturday, October 13, for the "Yam Jam" gleaning event. The Scouts got really dirty and performed some useful Community Service at the same time. Congratulations to the Yam Jam award winners:
Bobcat Awards - The Pack welcomed seven new Bobcats at the October Pack meeting, and three more at the November meeting.
Family Camping - We had beautiful weather and lots of good food on September 21, 22 and 23 at Jordan Lake. Scouts swam most of the day, and several earned Swimming Belt Loops. Raingutter Regatta - Pack 486 joined with Pack 495 to hold a Raingutter Regatta on Saturday, July 28 at West Point on the Eno. Twenty-four boys from the two Packs made their own sailboats from materials supplied by the Packs, then raced them down raingutters filled with water. After the race, and after the raingutters were cleaned out and lined with Saran wrap, the boys (and some of the parents!) ate ice cream sundaes right out of the rain gutters! There were also games to play during the race. Several of the boys won trophies as well:
