A Pinewood Derby kit was given to each scouts at the December Pack meeting. Cars should be built by the Cub Scout with SOME adult guidance. Any technical assistance should be fully explained to the Cub Scout so that he can use that knowledge on future projects. (NOTE: If you need help putting together/designing your car, there are a number of web sites on the internet. Also, local hobby shops carry pinewood derby equipment and speed kits.)

  WHEN:

2002 Date TBA. New for 2002 we will try to have a Pinewood Derby clinic. Where we can help new families build their first cars, and give speed tips to our more experienced scouts.

2002 Date TBA. The weigh-in will be held at Greenville Baptist Church from 6:30 to 7:30PM. The cars will be left there overnight. (Pinewood Derby Volunteers: At this time we will put together the track and prepare it for the race the following day.)

2002 Date TBA. The race will be held at the Greenville Baptist Church from 1:00 to 3:00PM. The races will begin promptly at 1:00PM, starting with the tiger cub dens.

  WHO:

Each Scout will be competing against the other scouts in their own den. The winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd) will be presented with an award. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 scouts with the overall fastest times in the whole pack. Certificates will be awarded to cars with: Best Design, Best Paint Job, Most Creative, and Others!!!

For the parents and siblings there will be an open Divisions that will allow everyone to participate.

  RULES:

All cars must pass the following inspection to qualify for the race:
1. Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces. Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches. Length shall not exceed 7 inches. Height shall not exceed 3 inches.
   
2. Axles and wheels shall be from the materials provided in the kit.
3. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
   
4. No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite.
   
5. No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car.
