Welcome to the adventure of Cub Scouting!  Cub Scouts is a year round family program designed for boys in the first through fifth grade.  Parents work with the leaders to help our young Scouts grow and have fun while they learn and participate in many activities.  What does Cub Scouts do to help our sons grow?

The Ten Purposes of Cub Scouting

                  1.            Character Development

                  2.            Spiritual Growth

                  3.            Good Citizenship

                  4.            Sportsmanship

                  5.            Family Understanding

                  6.            Respectful Relationships

                  7.            Personal Achievement

                  8.            Friendly Service

                  9.            Fun and Adventure

              10.            Preparation for Boy Scouts

Here in Pack 302, we provide a year round program of indoor and outdoor activities designed for our Scouting age groups.  Siblings and parents are encouraged to join in the fun at all our meetings and outings.

We are sponsored by the West Kennebunk Fire Department.  They have been great supporters of our Pack and activities since our beginning in 1997.

Cub Scouts is organized around “Dens” of four to eight boys who meet regularly during the year to work on advancements, play games, do crafts and have a good time.  These meetings generally take place two to four times each month during the school year and are held at a leader’s home or some other place the den chooses.

Once a month, all the dens come together in a “Pack” at our monthly Pack Meeting, usually held in a large hall, like the Middle School of the Kennebunks’ Cafeteria (MSK).  At the Pack Meeting we try to have a little fun and showmanship, as well as award the Scouts with the achievement pins, belt loops and advancement badges they earned during the month.  Everyone, siblings and adults are encouraged to join in the fun at the Pack Meetings.

Cub Scout Advancements:                Top

Dens are organized into four age groups, Tiger Cubs, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Scouts.

The Tiger Cub program is for first grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners.  The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes requirements in five activity areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These requirements consist of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

After Tiger Cubs all Scouts must first earn the Bobcat Badge.  This advancement helps the Scout understand the basic principles of Cub Scouting and forms a great base to build upon.  No matter what level of Cub Scouting a boy starts at, the first advancement earned is the Bobcat Badge.

Boys in the second grade begin the Cub Scouting trail working toward their Wolf Rank.  The Wolf rank challenges boys with age appropriate mental and physical activities.  Scouts who achieve the Wolf rank during the year will have the opportunity to work on electives to earn arrow points for their uniform.

Boys in the third grade work toward the Bear Rank in Cub Scouts.  As in the Wolf rank, Bears will be challenged with mental and physical activities designed for their age.  The activities will be a little more challenging than the during the boy’s Wolf year of Scouting.

Boys in the fourth and fifth grade join Cub Scouting as Webelos.  This rank is a two year program culminating in the highest rank in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light.  The Webelos program is designed to prepare the Scout for the great adventure of Boy Scouting.  In Webelos, the Scouts will begin to work more independently and earn achievement pins toward the Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks.
