Friday September 7, 2001 Well, the performances have been running stronger each night. I spaced out a little bit, though, at the beginning of the show and forgot to get my coin-purse prop for the merchant. I only remembered that I had to have it just as I ran onstage, and then of course it was too late to run backstage and get it. I felt really bad having to mime the money, especially when there was no way for me to communicate this to everyone affected (Don Masuda as the Lord I buy the rice from, Alex Hsu as the Swordmaker Don buys from and even Linda Chuan as the merchant's mother who takes my money). I won't make that mistake again. After the show some of us went to Chef Liu's restaurant for some hand-made noodles and then over to Michael's to hang out....
Sunday September 9, 2001 Scott and Michael hosted a poolside BBQ at their apartment complex (Oakwood Apartments). from 1pm to 5 pm.I didn't get there until very late but it seems everyone had a great time. There was still tons of food by the time I got there. I figured people would be at dessert stage so I brought jumbo cookies. However some people were going for seconds or thirds (and in David Sanchez's case - fourths!) After helping to clean up (or in Tony Nam's and my case, we TRIED to help) it was off to the theater for the evening Sunday show... The show went very well tonight and the audience was extremely responsive and seemed to enjoy it very much! Afterwards, a few of us (Mikio, Hisato, Erwin, Donny H, David L, Ricky, Michael, Nicole, and I) went to MARTUNI's in San Francisco! What Fun! I've never been to a piano bar before and we had such a great time! Memorable moments were: Hisato singing as Mary Sunshine in CHICAGO, Michael stumbling through "Why God?" from MISS SAIGON (I think he was a little inebriated!), and Mother Mikio singing a torch song ON TOP OF THE PIANO, and Erwin and Nicole singing "In Whatever Time We Have" from CHILDREN OF EDEN...(oh, also spoke on the cellphone to Michael's roommate Greg -- or is it Craig -- and Leah Salonga!) I think from here on, we can start defining the performance nights by what we do AFTERWARDS...!
Saturday September 8, 2001 My voice is getting better but I still need to remember to support! I think I'm getting by with a constant supply of RICOLA throat Lozenges and the THROAT COAT TEA that Don Masuda gave me. As for the show, it still gets stronger and stronger every night. I'm not sure how it happened, but we started making noise during the "NEXT" dance break --we really are starting to have fun with this number! It was nice seeing Dr Dhillon during the meet and greet - He really enjoyed the show! Tonight after the show, Ricky, Alex and I drove over to TD's for cocktails and dancing. We left around 1 am and headed for the party at Eryn's parents house in Saratoga. They live in a great house complete with pool and spa. As we arrived Eryn was just starting Fantasia 2000 and some people were still outside enjoying the water. They also have a piano in the living room and some gravitated there as Hisato and Michael played while everyone else sang... We sang through Les Miz, Flower Drum Song, and various 80's stuff (thanks to Michael!)
