Rehearsal Journal Page 17
Friday August 31, 2001

We had understudies rehearsal today which started at 2:30 pm. We only rehearsed musical numbers since I believe the blocking is pretty straight forward and relies more on individual leg-work.
It was a very productive rehearsal and seemed to go fairly well.
I can't wait for Sunday's run-through....

As for the show tonight, again seemed to fare much better, but still not without its flaws.
Opening night tomorrow.....

* * *  OPENING NIGHT !!! * * *
Wow!
What a great opening night! As Kelley put it ever-so-subtly "We blew the audience away!"
It was a great energy as everyone aspired to such greatness, buoyed by the audience's support!  I suppose, even next to last Tuesday night's audience, this was one of the most supportive and appreciative audience yet !

The reception afterwards was quite a delight.  It is always such a pleasure to see people in all their fineries and with their hair down(some of them more literally than others!)
There were so many wonderful moments that night. If only I could capture every one of those moments. Again, I feel so lucky to be part of such a talented and simply beautiful cast!

After the reception it was dancing @ St Stephens on the Green, late dinner at Pho Hoa afterwards and then over to Embassy Suites Room 914 (which Kevin wisely secured for the evening) before heading home around 5 am....

I lost my voice.
Well, not completely, but it certainly doesn't sound good!
I tried my best to mark the run-throughs vocally but that was difficult too.
There were definite "Pseudolus flashbacks!"
Otherwise the show went fairly well, albeit a very different audience in terms of dynamics.
Kuya and Lori were here, though, and they just  loved it! Kuya told just about everyone in the cast that He and Lori saw "Contact" last Wednesday and we simply were sooo much better than they were!!!

Understudy run-throughs went very well. It was great having Lawrence Thoo there to direct me and give me pointers.  It was also neat seeing other people playing different roles, which again showcases everyone's talents!
I wish I was able to see Tony during the Merchant scene; he sounded great!!!

My favorite memory was standing upstage behind the scrim as the show started, looking out into the dimly lit house and the sillhouettes of the other actors in "Advantages!"
Simply Magic!!!

Labor day
Today was company day off, which couldn't have come at a better time, since I needed to rest my voice.
I received an email from Kathy Oda, Sophie mom. It seems we have a great review from
San Francisco's The Chronicle!
