Review – Crooked Fingers “Reservoir Songs”
EP on Warm Records through Rubber
Eric
Bachmann is better known for his work with Archers
of Loaf, as well as under the Barry Black
banner. Recently he has turned producer for the likes of Azure Ray
whose catalogue has just been licensed to Australia by Rubber Records, but he is still
keeping his performing boots on with Crooked
Fingers and their latest batch of reworkings
entitled “Reservoir
Songs”, on Merge Records
through Rubber (although Crooked Fingers also appear
on the Warm Records site).
I have heard some interesting cover-songs in my time, and these are definitely some more of them! When was the last time you saw Kris Kristofferson, Neil Diamond, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Bowie / Queen together on the one record? Another case in point is, when was the last time you heard these artists’ songs coming out of a banjo? There’s definite Louisiana Bayou seeping from this record, almost the same way as it did from Primus’s Seas of Cheese album. I also get a hint of Ray Stevens’ Misty but won’t press that point too heavily.
It may not be everybody’s bag – some
Alternative music fans may love it, as may some Country music fans, but it may
not fit either category! I’ve only called it alternative because it’s
different! Check it out for yourself through any one of the three record label
sites through which you can find out more.
