| How to make a low cost antenna mast with out guy wires!!! In this website you will find information regarding how to construct a sturdy durable mast for your scanner antenna!!! Before we get into the nitty gritty, you must select a location for your scanner antenna. And before that, you must select a suitable antenna. I would recommend the 20-176 from Radio Shack. It's about 20" tall and wide and easy to mount. And it has very favorable ratings when compared to more expensive models. At a cost of around $20, it's pretty darn good. Also, you will need to select a suitable co-ax cable. I recommend RG8/U. It's affordable and works very well compared to more expensive kinds of co-ax. |

You will also need some kind of bolts and nuts and washers 1/4" width, of corresponding length Slightly longer than the width of each pipe. You will need a drill with a 6" or greater x 1/4" bit. One roll of duct tape. That's right duct tape. Also a good set of wrenches, pliers, wire cutters, crimpers, saw, and a healthy friend. NOTE: Width of pvc pipe can be varied but, they should be incremently smaller; Big, smaller, smaller, yet smaller.... Assembly instructions So you bought a scanner. You could be a girl about it and settle for the dinky excuse of an antenna that came with the scanner or you could be a man about it and get a real rig up. This setup is $50 or less (not including antenna). |
