FRATERNITY MILESTONES
1977:
-March 21, 1977...Phi Delta Psi Fraternity is born, and the Fraternity ritual & constitution are written. November 1977 marked the incorporation of Phi Delta Psi.
1978:
-March 23 1978, the line "1/5 of PHI" becomes the first ever to journey across the burning sands of Phi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc.
1979:
-The Sapphire Organization is born. Ethel "Lady PHI" Rambis becomes the first ever woman initiated along with 24 others.
1981:
-Beta (University of Detroit-Mercy) and Gamma (Ferris State University) chapters established.
1982:
-Delta (Wayne State University) and Epsilon (Central Michigan University) Chapters established.
1984-1992:
"Time period dedicated to organization..."
National Board of Directors established. Fraternity ritual, constitution & coat of arms revised. The First ever Conclave & Ball are held.
1993:
-11 men on the line "11 Ways to die" cross at Ferris State Univeristy to make it the largest line to cross the burning sands of Phi Delta Psi.
1995:
-Zeta Chapter (Grand Valley State University, MI) established
1997:
-Groundbreaking of Fraternity Monument at Western Michigan University
1998:
-Eta Chapter (St. John's University, NY Staten Island Campus) established.
(First ever Chapter established outside the state of Michigan and in the state of New York).
1999:
-Theta (Michigan State University) & Iota (St. John's University, NY Queens Campus) Chapters established
2000:
-Kappa Chapter (Norfolk State University, VA) established
(First Chapter established in state of Virginia & at a predominately black college).
2001:
-First line ever initiated into the Sapphire Organization outside the state of Michigan.
"Roses out of PHIre," Eta/ Iota Chapter, St. John's University, NY.
2002:
-Lambda Chapter (Hampton University, VA) established
-Metro-Detroit Alumni Chapter established
-Alpha Gamma PHI (Flint, MI) becomes the first official "Greek letter designated" Graduate Chapter
2003:
-Metro-Detroit Alumni Chapter receives Greek letter designation as Alpha Alpha PHI
-Mu Chapter (City-Wide Chapter in Philadelphia, PA) established.
(First chapter established in state of Pennsylvania)
-Nu Chapter (Eastern Michigan University) established.
2004:
-Xi (Alabama A&M University), Omicron (St. Augustine's College, NC), Pi (temple University), Rho (Penn State University), Sigma (Savannah State College, GA) Undergraduate Chapters established.
-Alpha Beta PHI (Kalamazoo, MI), Alpha Delta PHI (Huntsville, AL), Alpha Epsilon PHI (Norfolk, VA), Alpha Zeta PHI (Kentucky), Alpha Eta PHI (Chicago/ Indiana), Alpha Theta PHI (New York, NY) Graduate Chapters established.
2005:
-Tau (Kentucky State University), Upsilon (Columbia College Chicago), Phi (University of Illinois-Champaign) Undergraduate Chapters established.
2008:
-Chi (Cleveland State University, OH) Undergraduate Chapter established.
