Phi Delta Psi is a college fraternity consisting of functioning undergraduates and flourishing alumni chapters on major campuses in major cities throughout the country. The fraternity was founded at Western Michigan University as a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Michigan on March 21, 1977 and was was later incorporporated in November of that same year. (The fraternity later established a little sister organization named Sapphires). Since, Phi Delta Psi has succeeded in growing to a dozen chapters, and nearly thousands of members. This is primarily in the Mid-West and East Coasts, however, our time for expansion has arrived. By the end of the decade, Phi Delta Psi fraternity, Inc. will be one of the leading Fraternities on many major College campuses as well as many historically Black Colleges and Universities. Phi Delta Psi has an above average graduation rate. Over 82% of our members have graduated into their professional fields. At This Point In Time, Phi Delta Psi's Main Goals, as outlined in the Fraternity Constitution Are: -To consider the goals and ideas of members as continually applicable to the campus, social and personal life. -To promote superior scholarship as basic and intellectual acheivement -To interact with other Fraternities, Sororities, Organizations and the University Administration for the concern for and maintenance of high social and moral standards. -To direct members toward a consciousness of their life-long responsibility of serving others. -To enhance our members' ability to take a leadership position in society. And in so doing...Create and develop men of serious attitudes toward a more progressive college life and service to all mankind. -Act as an instrument for continually building faith in the infinite value and unlimited possibilities of individual self improvement. -and to develop skills in effort, communication and organization toward alleviating the problems that confront black men in society today... -PHI DELTA PSI DOES NOT ENDORSE "HAZING" Phi Delta Psi and the Sapphires are not just a social fraternal family. Up to this point in time, our concept is seen as a logical progression from individual self improvement to the larger goal of social betterment for the masses. Education will always be the key, the proven way to break the cycle of poverty, discrimination, and deprivation of our rights. Each step in the academic progression is further proof of the educability and hence leadership potential of those at the bottom rung of the so-called, " socioeconomic ladder. " We are involved in community services and hope to one day be able to offer aid to the underprivileged throughout the world. Our members have no choice but to be " leaders of men. " We are a fraternity with a definable purpose and definite goal in mind. For we beleive... " ALL THAT WE PUT INTO THE LIVES OF OTHERS, COME BACK INTO OUR OWN." "WE MEASURE MAN BY THE CHARACTER OF HIS MIND, RATHER THAN THE THICKNESS OF HIS BEHIND..." |
