| IN THE DARK In a shadow filled with darkness One secret lies in between Filled with no love and encouragement The dark shadow gets pushed away from the light That can never be shined with brightness The hatred and the innocence fills the shadow with rage and anger That the shadow cannot be whole The shadow tries hard to rejoin itself But it never came to be It gets pushed farther and farther away Until the shadow is no more. Copyright (c) Jenny P. Ng 2000 [Commentary: This was the first poem I ever wrote that had a profound impact on me. I wrote it when I was still in Junior high school. This is also the only poem of my hundreds of poems that I memorized by heart because it has special meaning to me. This poem was written during a time in my life when I was extremely depressed and helpless.. Sometimes I still feel that way. But as each new person comes into my life and leave a special imprint in it...it helps me to lessen this sadness in my heart. This poem has won semi-finalist and Honorable Mentiion in the International Poetry competition and has been published in two poetry anthnology books as well as online in www.poetry.com] |
