AROUND THE HOMESTEAD
Getting to the Site
Our driveway was undrivable at times in the winter months for the first three years.  Over that time we spent months slowly pulling stumps and  laying rock and gravel to make it a year-round path.
Our creek bottom flows occasionally from Fall through Spring.  We dug out a portion of it by hand in hopes of creating a small pond, but the water leaches through the rock and clay.
We cut out a section of forest to make wooded pasture for animals and fenced in a two-acre section with some of the timber.  Three  consecutive drought years have left us with little in the way of grassy pasture, but we care for the sections that have survived and hope to have better luck in the future.

We built a barn out of timber and scraps (half finished in this image) and had a dozer dig us a pond in 1997.
