Here's one way!
On peter's across site,
www.hyp4r.com/mct/across/across.htm
...he mentions that you can put a GS 500 engine into the across. Would
love to see that! Anyone have further info on this? |

I've heard of the GS500 conversion, but really, it would be
so much easier to buy a bigger bike that will have the uprated suspension
and brakes to go along with it.

Re: how to gain power

There has been a guy who has done porting and polishing of the
head with some excellent claimed results. If you search through the threads
at groups.yahoo.com/group/suzukiacross
you should be able to find more info.
Knocking out the baffles in the standard exhaust supposedly increases
your output around the 14,000-16,000rpm mark. Of course you'll have to
deal with the extra noise. I'm unsure whether there is a performance hit
lower in the rev range but I haven't heard anything bad. Again you can
find more on this by searching the threads at the hyperlink provided above.

Hey Ivan, do you know if you have to cut the pipe to knock out
the baffles? You would have to wouldn't you? I wouldn't mind a little more
noise from my beast, but don't want to buy an aftermarket pipe as I'm selling
the bike within a few months anyway.
Thanks

Re: how to gain power

Are you sure that the GS500 motor would be an advantage over
the across motor. Hmmm... not sure myself. They aren't real powerful really.
I read it only puts our 43-45 horspower, probably has more torque.
Anyway just a thought

Re: how to gain power

Knocking out the baffles doesn't involve any pipe-cutting. You
just need to punch holes in the baffles (hammer on a screwdriver or if
you want a nicer finish, powerdrill with appropriately sized drillbit).
I've got the images on my website at www.geocities.com/krazyives/bikes.html.
Follow the link pertaining to the "exhaust baffles".
Credit to one Bryce Girdler for provision of the pictures and instructions
on how to perform this modification (see groups.yahoo.com/group/SuzukiAcross
and search for a "baffles" in the threads).

dont do the gs500 thing. has anyone really done it or do they
all just talk about it? have fun on the across while you can and sell it
for a bigger bike. a bigger engine would ruin the across and i bet a gs500
cant rev to 17000rpm!

Exactly man,
Why bother tinkering with the Across anyway. They are perfectly good
enough as they are.
It's all about cornering people, just practice and practice.
