Across VS CBR250RR
Im doing my L's course this month, and im trying to decide what bike to get.
Why should i get a across instead of an cbr250rr, other than the storage bin.

What about a brand new NSR150?

Thankyou in advance

It depends what you're after. If you just want a sports bike, the CBR is well ahead, but if you want something practical to ride to work everyday and have fun on the weekends, the Across is the best bet. You'll also find the CBR is a lot more expensive for a late model in good condition, you're probably better getting something a little cheaper then buying a bigger bike once you get your opens that will destroy any CBR250RR anyway.

Re: Across VS CBR250RR
One more thing, insurance is getting hard to find for the CBR lately, at NRMA we no longer insure them at all. The reason is that so many wannabe boy racers get them and throw them down the road the first time they go for a serious ride. The two strokes are getting the same as well. The NSR150 looks cool, very small engine, but the handling should be awesome. It's probably better suited to smooth race tracks than our Aussie roads though.

I hope all that helps.

Re: Across VS CBR250RR
I was seriously looking at the nsr150 before I got the across, mainly because it was brand spankers, looks good (but crap in repsol if ya know what I mean) and seemed better than 2nd hand cbr-rr for 5000 anyway. But then I started thinking maybe spending that much money on a first bike is not such a good idea, I knew that this bike was always going to be a training bike, so why kill something nice when a cheaper bike can fill the same needs for less? With 1500 of riding gear, and constant 2stroke oil refills plus 2stroke economy, not really as economical as I was hoping. Besides, the honda shop up the road tried to screw me because I didn't like their 'finance', which only drove me further away. I'd really like to look at a 2nd hand one after I'm done with the across when I could make use of it on the road or track, maybe for the 2nd half of the P's year. They look so good on the spec sheet, although the 39PS at peak is apparently a little closer to 32-33PS, but still...

Re: Across VS CBR250RR
The NSR seems like a pretty good deal, I'd consider buying one myself, if for nothing more than to have a brand new bike! I had a look at Honda's ad in the current Motorcycle Trader today, I was amazed at how cheap they are. They look like a real sports bike too, and should sound the goods aswell with that little 2 stroke belting away. Pitty about the Repsol paint (unless Doohan was still with them!). That makes me think they are old stock from Japan perhaps, hence the cheap price? Just a thought. They should have done them in Rossi's Honda colours, then I would have had to buy one!

There is a guy on the Across Yahoo group who traded his RGV250 on an Across, he said the RGV was quicker (obviously) but for an all rounder the Across was much better, and he's kept the Across ever since.

Re: Across VS CBR250RR
I had a look at work today and our price for insurance on the NSR150SP is actually very good! I guess the small sounding engine fooled them! I wouldn't mind betting that the price will jump though, as I can imagine a lot of them being crashed by young wannabe racers!

cbr is good and bad, they have to work very hard to make their power, all the ones you see sound rattly and bad mechanically. across makes a little less power but makes it much easier and less stressful. if you just want to race get a cbr but across is a better bike for sure. plus suzuki are better than honda!

Nissky, there is some more info in the similar topic titled 'Why not to buy an Across'

Hey Suzi, I've also noticed a lot of CBR250RRs sound a bit crook, I'd say it's just because most of them get the sh!t thrashed out of them every weekend!
