("byte exchange" sticker question omitted)
Also, in your opinion/experience, what are the pressing maintenance
checks at
100k? (Yes, I could look at the manual, but I consider you guys the
experts....)
Thanks
Re. the 100k service, I would combine the checks in the manual with the stuff on cars.com, which lists this:
100000 Miles Service
REPLACE Engine Oil Filter
ROTATE Tires
REPLACE Timing Belt
INSPECT Automatic Transmission Fluid
INSPECT Tires
DRAIN & REFILL Engine Oil
INSPECT Power Steering Fluid
INSPECT OR REPLACE Brake System
LUBRICATE Trunk, Hood Hinges & Latches
INSPECT Antenna Mast
INSPECT Battery
I would also lubricate the door-straps every service.
I have a tech friend who recommends changing the spark plugs much more frequently than the recommended intervals, (e.g., 15000 kilometres) as old plugs put a stress on the rest of the ignition system that you can do without.
You probably have and need the US manual (- my crappy Aust. one doesn't have full info on servicing.)
Make sure to do things such as get flushed / flush the tranny fluid yourself religiously. See my website for detailed info.
I think on the earliest models (93 MY included?) there was a thinner timing belt that needed to be changed every 50k miles (later/thicker = every 70000 miles). Your byte exchange sticker indicates that it was done at 98k miles, so it would not need to be done again until 150000 miles. Whatever the case, the timing belt issue is really important: check info on my site about it. Your engine will be destroyed if you have a timing belt failure. Make sure they know what they are doing and put it on the right way (this happened to a friend of mine with a 740 and his broke: he narrowly missed trashing his engine), and assess/replace the hydraulic tensioner & spacer!
Let me know if you want a further hand in any way
regards
Michael.
