These ideas
began one century ago in a small region of the Venezuelan Andes on October
26th of 1861 with the birth, in Isnotu, of JOSE GREGORIO HERNANDEZ, who had
been the scientific pioneer and guide of medical studies and researches in
Venezuela.Hernandez got the Physician title in 1888, and since that date has
influenced the lives of the Venezuelan people. His tragic death in 1918
became a national tragedy. We have decided to honor his memory with the
presentation of this page.On March 12th, 1895, in Escuque, was born my father
JOSE GREGORIO CONTRERAS P., and although the two lived in the same region of
South America, did not meet each other until Contreras got the Title of
Pharmacist and Chemist in 1917. My father told me that the only a few
occasions that he saw him was in The Vargas Hospital of Caracas were they
worked during the first decade of the 20th Century. I wish to gratefully acknowledge the help
of all my relatives, patients and English teachers without whose help would
not be possible this work. |
