A Rose is a Rose
By John Chang

The Tales of the Bard
Billy Raven
Many in the common room have been caught with the latest copies of 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard'. Not that there is a series or anything, just a new printing. First I love the new cover, colorful with illustrations that hint at the stories inside. These tales are new to some, especially our Muggle-born among us, but for others who grew up in wizard families, these are more familiar. That is if you didn't get copies or the revisions by various others who thought they were improving the words set forth by Beetle the Bard. "No, not improvements." says my mom, and she added, 'messing with his words is like touching up the Mona Lisa. A crime!"
I'm not sure which is my favorite, but if they are put in an order of favs to not-so-fav, 'The Wizard and the Hopping Pot' would probably be low in the list, not sure why, but I like others better then this one. I liked "The Fountain of Fair Fortune', maybe because there was a knight there, and I liked 'The Tale of the Three Brothers'. No matter which one you like, its great to have a new copy since me mom's was getting pretty raggedy.
What classes have interested you the most for this semester?
Cauly
I am not sure about you, but I have great interest in the classes at PAD's Hogwarts. Maybe, you like potions or some other canon Harry Potter class. Perhaps, Paranormal Phenomenon strikes you as exciting. Whatever seems most entertaining, you should make sure that you sign up for it! Take advantage of the opportunities!
Biggest Newbie Mistakes
Professor Snape
New students find quite quickly that reading our rules are important and we stand by them. Make no mistake, being open for almost seven years, we have seen just about everything and are wise to those who try and worm their way around our rules. Mind you, some are honest mistakes, however, if one was to actually READ the rules then mistakes would not happen. Reading them and signing them is a requirement, but for Merlins sake, if you are not clear on what they mean exactly..ASK. But you are not alone making the mistake of not following ruleswe even have students who have been here for a while break them and should have known better, especially those on staff. So, herego back and read the rules, particularly the one that covers using our PM/mailing system for spreading personal web sites without being officially affiliated with us. The next one you should read is the one dealing with MULTIPLY PERSONALITIES (or characters) otherwise known as an MP.  One more pointyou have a Head of House and an Assistant Head of House, they are there to help, support you and guide you, let them. Each house is also stuff with Prefects and Assistant Prefects, who are your peers, talk to them. Often mistakes are forgiven and everyone moves on, or there might be a set punishment for breaking some take it like a mature student, and then start fresh. It takes a big person to admit their mistakes, apologize and move oneasy out is bucking the system, pointing fingers, and calling others names, this is not kindergarten folks.
Backpacking: Sleeping Bags
- Gawyn Crossguard
This month's topic is on sleeping bags. Sleeping bags come in many colors and ratings, but only two types.

Regular Sleeping Bags - These bags are square. They have a zipper on one side, and a drawstring at the top.
Mummy Bags - These bags are more oval. Their bottoms are narrower than the top. They have one zipper, a drawstring, and often a Velcro flap. Mummy bags also have a a half circle of fabric framing the camper's head. It helps keep the camper warm on colder nights.
Ratings - All sleeping bags have ratings. They are rated to the minimum temperature to which it will keep a person warm. If camping in the summer, a person wants one rated around 40 or 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If one is camping in the winter, he/she would want one rated to at least 0, possibly in the negative numbers depending on the particular climate. The lower the rating degree, the more expensive the bag. Bags rated for the 40 or 50 mark are generally filled with cotton - like a pillow, except not quite as much. A bag rated for 0 or below is generally filled with real goose down.
Public Posting VS. Private Messages
By Tyler Keegan
Did you ever wonder if what people say on the public forum is what theyre actually saying in private? Based on some PMs Ive been getting lately, Im beginning to think that many put on a happy face around the common room but behind closed doors theyre actually plotting & scheming the demise of their housemates! Some seem innocent & sweet to others faces, building them up & making them feel like the center of their universe. But then in secret theyre going behind those peoples backs to hit on their boy or girlfriends or talk about how much they cant stand this person or that one or even plot their destruction. Do these kinds of people think that what they say in private wont come out eventually? Do they think theyre the only ones that talk in PMs & the rest of the house wont find out what theyre saying about them to others?! Everyone talks to everyone Ive learned, so anything said in a PM is bound to surface somewhere to someone else. To me its not worth the risk of saying things in PMs that you dont want the whole house to hear, because in the end they will. My advice to everyone is always say what you mean & mean what you say no matter who (or where) you say it. Then youll never get caught by anyone saying things you wish you could take back later.
