| Professor Lockhart Passes on His Legacy
By Jolie Taylor At this year's End of Term speech, everyone in Hogwarts was shocked to discover that Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, one of the Deputy Headmasters and Head of Hufflepuff, would be unable to complete some of his duties due to traveling. While he will still remain Head of Hufflepuff, he won't be teaching any classes. So, he passed his classes onto two different Professors. Professor Simbi, already the professor for Mythology, World Wonders, and the Assistant Head of House for Ravenclaw, will take on the role as Care of Magical Creatures professor. Professor O'Connell, already the professor for Wizarding Occupations and the Assistant Head of House for Gryffindor, will be the new Transfiguration Professor. Best of lucks in your travels, Professor Lockhart, and good luck to our new teachers! |
| Farewell, Professor Lockhart! By Ymreh During the End of Term speeches, all of Hogwarts was shocked to hear that Professor Lockhart is not going to be teaching next term. While he will still have his duties as head of Hufflepuff, due to his traveling, he will not be able to teach. He passed his two classes to colleagues Professors O'Connell and Simbi. Professor Lockhart, from everyone in Hogwarts, we hope you have a safe time traveling...and bring back presents! |
| Professor Lockharts Real Reason By Hairy Soup If youve kept up with the announcements at all lately youll have already known that Professor Lockhart will be scarce around the castle this coming term. Hes relinquished his professor-ship of two long-held classes, Care of Magical Creatures and Transfigurations, to the care of other professors and announced to the school that hell be busy in the coming months. But what is the real reason behind his absence? This writer had a mission to find out. After lurking outside his office door for a few weeks (and in doing so risking life, limb, and my sanity), and receiving over three-hundred autographed pictures of the smiling professor, I finally found the answer to my goal. Professor Lockhart has a secret coalition of wizards around the world devoted solely to sabotaging certain brands of hair-care products. Thats right. Professor Lockhart, as we all know, is the king of fine follicles and magnificent mirrors, but he also works hard for his beauty. He uses only what he considers the best products, and as such has made it his priority to personally decimate any company he does not think is doing the hair care world justice. If it were all for the good of the community, seeking out only those who are truly hurting and extorting people of their money, then it would not be so great a problem But it doesnt end there. Gilderoy Lockhart has a secret mission to destroy all up and coming small business in the industry. After failing to get one of his own products off the ground, he has an unhealthy vendetta against all those who threaten to do what he cannot. And so, my friends, the reason for his absence? To devote more time to this unfortunate hobby of his. I implore you to speak to any small business owners in the hair industry immediately and caution them to steer clear of Gilderoy Lockhart, even if he claims to only want to help them promote their product. Trust me its a scam. |
| Changes in Two of Hogwarts' Most Profound Classes
By Yaxley Chambers After hearing the tragic news that our wonderful Professor Gilderoy Lockhart would be leaving Hogwarts to do some traveling, his replacements were hired to teach the famed classes of Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures. These two Professors are ones we are familiar with, they are none other than Professor Charles Simbi and Professor Stephan O'Connell. Prof. Simbi teaches Mythology and World Wonders and Assistant Head's Ravenclaw House on top of his new class, Care of Magical Creatures. Prof. O'Connell teacher Wizarding Occupations, Assitant Head's Gryffindor, and Moderates OWL testing on top of being hired to teach Transfiguration. We at Hogwarts are excited to see what these teachers have in store for their new classes and we're sure they'll do a great job, though in every good thing must come to an end and as excited as we are to see Prof's Simbi and O'Connell in these new classrooms, we'll miss Professor Lockhart very much. |
| New Teachers! By Ear-Aisscran As we bid farewell to Professor Lockhart as he spends his year traveling, we welcome the two professors who will take his place and his jobs. Professor Stephen O'Connell, Assistant Head of House to the awesome Gryffindor, will teach Transfiguration. Professor Charles Simbi, Assistant Head of House to Ravenclaw, will teach Care of Magical Creatures. Congratulations to both professors, make us proud! But, do us a favor, don't make the classroom smell like hair gel. |
| New Transfiguration Professor!
By No Way Already the much famed professor of Wizarding Occupations, Professor Stephan O'Connell will now be teaching the class of Transfiguration as well. He will be taking Professor Lockhart's place because the ever loved hair obsessed Head of Hufflepuff will be taking some time for traveling purposes. Congratulations, Professor! You'll do a great job. The best of luck...and don't screw up! |
| New Care of Magical Creatures Professor! By Yes Way Due to traveling, Professor Lockhart can no longer teach his normal classes. So, he's passed his duties onto two colleagues that he feels will do the job justice. One of the classes he taught was Care of Magical Creatures. It is my great honor to welcome Professor Charles Simbi as the new professor of this class. Best of luck to his new job, I hope you do well. |
| New Arithmancy Professor
Paddington swelling with pride By Toby Mcdermont Due to the absence of our regular Arithmancy teacher, Prof. Haddington, Assistant Head of House of Paddington will be taking over the class as of this term. Everyone in Paddington is excited for the HOHs new role at the school and is there to support her all the way. After word around the got around, students excitedly wait to sign up for the class as soon as it becomes available again for the next term. Prof. Haddington states that the Harry Numbers lessons that were never finished will be done by the time she takes over the class this coming term. Prof. Haddington is expecting a big turnout at her first year of Artithmancy so be sure and sign up for the class while its available. Prof. Haddington promises that her new teaching will not interfere with her job as the Assistant HOH in Paddington. |
| Professor Change! by: Neptune As many, if not all, know, Professor Lockhart is taking a sabbatical from his post here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and has passed on his classes to two other professors, Professor O'Connell, Professor of Wizarding Occupations and Assistant Head of Gryffindor House, and Professor Simbi, Professor of Mythology and Assistant Head of Ravenclaw House. Professor Simbi is taking over Care of Magical Creatures (CoMC) and Professor O'Connell is going to be the new Transfiguration professor. I'm sure that everyone at Hogwarts is excited to see what these two brilliant professors will be doing at their new posts, and wish them the best of luck. |
| Hogwarts Has Talent Winner! by: Mars As many, if not every, student is aware, there was a school-wide talent competition to find out who had the best talent here at Hogwarts! The winner was announced by Professor Lockhart has being Adrianna La Cerva from Paddington. I was able to catch up with Ade, and ask her how she felt when she was told that she won the contest. She had this to say: "I never won a contest since I've been at Hogwarts, so when I heard I won the Hogwarts Has Talent Competition; I was thrilled to say the least! There are so many talented people here and it was great to be able to see their work. This was one of the most fun contests I've been a part of!" Congratulations to Adrianna, and all the other finalists in the competition! Hogwarts truly has some very amazing talent. |
| The Summer Club
By Yaxley Chambers The Annual Hogwarts' Summer Club is nearing its half way point, but I can bet that it won't die down towards the end of Summer! With so many activities to take part in and earn ever important House Points, it's a hit as it always has been! The party is really hopping in that tent on the grounds! Up about five stories from the awesome tent is another hit of the summer, Professor Snape's summer potions, and Professor Bliss' summer Herbology, two of the greatest things to hit Hogwarts in the Summer time! As much as I look forward to the start of term and the back to regularity, I have to admit that the summer club is something I'll miss when I'm sitting in a classroom of lectures! |
| Summer Club Finally Open! By Anaitsyrt Yes, after much waiting, the summer club is open for students. There are many things for students to do that are not only fun, but earn points as well. There are trivia games, lessons, and even coloring pages (deny it if you like...you know you love to color) that will help make the summer fly by! So, if you haven't already, get your butt down there and earn points for your house! Do you have anything better to do? |
| Think You Know Your Harry Potter?
Beonca Aims Im not here to talk all about the Summer Club, which is great this summer, but if you think you know you Harry Potter facts? Try your hand at the Brain Teasers in the Summer Club. There are a variety of whys to test you brain; some have just initials others are figuring out who said what. The HP Trivia is also a blast, with new entries every week or two, so youll have to keep up. Then there is the Mega Word Find and I mean Mega! So, if you think you are the expert on all things HPtry your hand at these summer offerings. Besides being fun, they are worth points and we all know how important it is to see that house hour glasses grow. |
| New Summer Class By Ida Kay Along with the new Summer Club, something else is new this summer. A new class has been offered for the Summer Club. Then there is Mythical Creatures, taught by Professor Adriana Lunar, who talks about all the magical creatures that make up our land and world. This class is very interesting, and a great way to learn points. What's also great about this class is that there are two ways to approach it, a class no other professor offers. You can send in lessons via E-Owl, or you can role-play the lessons in her forum. Currently, there are six normal lessons and three role-playing lessons available. I recommend this class to everyone. It's fun, easy, and done really well. Great job, Professor! |
| Summer Herbology
Slither This class has not been offered before as a summer treat and Professor Bliss admitted early she was nervous. It all started with a conversation in Slytherin and grew from that to what you see today. The class has been a lot of fun and we are repotting mandrakes. There was a little background on the plant and we have just picked out our potted plant to work with, course many had to duck flying dirt globs being pelted by Threatspimp, Professor Blisss little mischievous baby pet squid. We will be getting our earmuffs next and many are curious as to how a squid wears them, but it should be fun. Many feel that Professor Bliss had nothing to worry about with her winning ability to educate and have a bit of fun with her little helper! |
| Not for the Squeamish
Bilborave If you have an aversion to bugs, spiders, animal parts, and poisonous mushrooms, Summer Potions is not for you! And that is just some of the creepy crawlies that you have to get, there are also eye balls, livers, toes, and fresh flowers. There are dead things, parts of things, and innards of things and just plain strange things. Getting them to your table is just one aspect of the class; you also have to prepare them! This means cutting, chopping, grinding, and slicing them up and measuring them. Many things are so dangerous that dragon-hide gloves are recommended with the warning of HWC. One of the three potions, we are making, contain a lot of things that start with black, like black widow spider, black-bellied salamander, and black kingsnake egg, course that is not for the Felix Felicis potion, but the Doxicide. So, like I said, if you are a bit squeamish, this class isnt for you! |
| Summer Potions A Review
Beonca Aims By the time you read this, Summer Potions class will be well into getting the ingredients and even possibly the preparations of them. The class certainly is popular, with many houses joining in except one, so far. Even some students from the new house, Paddington, has joined in and newer students from other houses who have never taken Potions before. This summer we are making the Veritaserum, Doxicide, and the Felix Felicis with the latter being not one of the Potions Masters favorite one to make. We have to make the first one because the Ministry is low on supplies, the second one; we are making enough to even keep a bottle for our selves. The last one, I have no idea what will happen to what we make. There are four to a table and two to a cauldron, which makes for some interesting pairing since many choose to sit with those not in their own houses, and many reserving tables for house mates only. From the mood of the room, everyone seems excited to be there, however, Professor Snape seems not in the mood to put up with too much. This is going to be an interesting mix and I look forward to seeing some people be served detentions. |
| Summer Makeovers! By: Earth The summer holidays have brought with them more changes than many young students would have anticipated. Classes are in full swing, giving students opportunities to earn points for the respective houses during the summer months, not to mention all the renovations that have been occurring in the common rooms, and the makeovers that have been given to the common room gates. However, a new trend seems to be sweeping Hogwarts, and that is summer makeovers. Students are changing their hair colours, their eye colours, and their overall style of dress as well. People have been going from blonde to brunette, from brunette to red head or from red head to brunette, using the summer as a time to experiment with new looks and dare to try something new. |
| Importance of Earning Points During The Summer by: Saturn During the summer term it's a bit more difficult for houses to earn lots of points, because many people leave the school to spend time with their families before the start of the next fall term. However, for those that remain, there are quite a few things you can do to earn points, such as write articles for the Owl Gazette, or articles for your house magazine. You can also submit things to the clubs in the Annex Building, or attend Summer Potions and Summer Herbology classes. And, of course, don't forget to take full advantage of the Summer Club and Monthly Challenges! |
| One Year Ago
By Yaxley Chambers But a year ago, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hit the bookstores and the truest of fans, like many of us, finished in only a day or two. We were unable to drop the book that gave us the answers we'd been waiting for over five years! It was arguably the best book many of us have ever read, but deep inside we were disappointed. The Harry Potter craze was over, sure we had the movies left, but we knew what was going to happen, the excitement had worn off. We were wrong. Despite the fact that we know whose side Snape was really on, we know all of the Horcruxes, we know the future of our beloved characters, and we know the past of others, the magic isn't over. Look at PAD's, after the release of the final book, we've still gained dozens of new members, we've gained new teachers and new classes, we've had success in certain areas like never before [Quidditch, OWL's, Point Races, the Gazette], and we've even brought together a new non-cannon house. With all of that, we are reminded that the story hasn't ended. We carry out our own story, sure we may not be JK Rowling, or we may never read about Harry and Ron and Voldemort again, but here on PAD's we continue our story. We can read about Prof. Ripley, or Samuel Craft, or Jenii Chang, or PAD, we can develop the site and ourselves. So a year ago the Harry Potter saga didn't end, and here's to making it last years and years! |

| The Super Splendid Summer Club
By Bry Casten The Summer Club is up, and already it has expanded since its first days! Complete with Harry Potter trivia, word searches courtesy of Professor Snape, a mythical creatures class courtesy of Adrianna Lunar, crossword puzzles from Professor Simbi, and the well-known coloring pages, the summer club is the place to be if youre looking for something to do. Professor Ripley has recently added a poetry section, where you can learn about different types of poetry and submit a few of your own writings for points. There is a giant word search to try out if you have the time, and brain-teasers to keep you sharp as a whistle (trust me, youll have to work for those the first one took me a while)! No matter what it is you like to do, youre sure to find something in the Summer Club, so check it out if you havent already! |
